'Mockingjay - Part 1' is a dynamic addition to the 'Hunger Games' series
Katniss Everdeen doesn't want to be the Mockingjay, the symbolic head of the revolution aimed at toppling the status quo and establishing a new, democratic world government. But she may not have a choice for she, alone among all the previous Victors of the Hunger Games, is universally admired and has demonstrated her ability to - like Joan of Arc - rally people to her cause. This is the third of four installments of 'The Hunger Games' series and it does not disappoint, primarily because it relies more on an emotion-charged script than flashy special effects.(For those who love them, there are plenty of special effects in this movie but this installment doesn't depend upon them for its narrative. As they should be, in my opinion, the special effects add to the narrative but do not overwhelm it.)Jennifer Lawrence plays Katniss, as she has in the previous two installments, and she takes the role to new levels with her performance. In this installment Katniss is weary; she has been fighting to survive while trying to protect those she loves and that has taken a heavy toll on her. She is safe, for the moment, in District 13, which was supposedly wiped out many years before, and she would just like to live quietly with her mother and sister out of harm's way. In addition, although she was rescued her friend and companion Peeta was not. He remains in the Capitol and it is clear from broadcasts he has made on behalf of the government that something dreadful has happened to him. Watching him parrot the government's position also takes its toll on Katniss, who would like to put thoughts of overthrowing the Capitol behind her, at least for awhile. That likely will not happen, however, because District 13's leaders are pressuring her to step into the role of the Mockingjay and the sooner the better. They have planned an extensive propaganda campaign featuring her that is aimed at stirring up the rebellion against the Capitol and its ruler, President Snow (played superbly by Donald Sutherland.) She relents at last but she has conditions: Among them, District 13 must rescue Peeta and the other surviving Victors at its earliest opportunity.Lawrence again demonstrates her acting chops as she goes from world-weary Hunger Games Victor to rebel fighter, from battlefield leader to a young woman caught in the throes of despair. There is an especially poignant scene in which she visits a hospital full of wounded and dying men, women and children - the result of a Capitol air raid. Lawrence plays the scene with just enough weariness and humility to give great emotional depth to her performance.Lawrence is backed up with strong performances by Elizabeth Banks, Phillip Seymour Hoffman (in one of his final roles), Stanley Tucci (as a smarmy government spokesman) and Julianne Moore, as the President of District 13. 'Mockingjay - Part 1' is tightly written, well paced and both the cinematography and special effects are excellent.I highly recommend it.

Mockingjay
I have always been a fan of The Hunger Games trilogy, We continue from the previous film ( Catching Fire ) to Katniss deciding wether to become the face of the rebellion against the Capital or not, along the way, she struggles with her decision because of the demons that have consumed her nights of sleep due to her previous interactions in the games and her desires to be the young girl from District Twelve. All of the previous cast members are back in this film, but we are introduced to new members Capital escapees: Cressida, her assistant Messalla, cameramen and brothers Pollux and Castor, and other characters who's names I can't think of. They follow Katniss on her journey to becoming The Mockingjay, and long the way, intentions between characters run high as its discovered that one of their people has been captured by The Capital, as they see this characters deterioration in front of them they start to question each other's loyalty. (The special effects that were used to depict the deterioration of this beloved character, were in my opinion, stunning,) this person's mind has also been altered in ways that will effect one's relationships with not only all of the characters, but specifically, Katniss Everdeen in the last installment The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2.The only problem that I have with this film is how slow it started, (for other fans there wasn't a lot of action, which is fine for me, which is what a lot of fans were expecting) I felt as though the director could have picked up the pace, I felt like I was watching the film Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 1, while watching this, ( if you've seen the Twilight film that referred to then you'll understand..lol ) which isn't the way that anyone should feel about a film. LOL.. I haven't seen the second part of mockingjay yet, hopefully I don't get that same feeling. Hopefully my first review of a film helps at least one person understand what the film might be about. LOL.. Every Revolution starts with a Spark ~ May the odds be ever in your favor.
