Born to wander, the Wayfarer has never stood still. In the early ‘50s, as moldable plastics entered the scene, the Wayfarer shifted sunglasses from function to style and the rest is history. Today, the Wayfarer continues to challenge the unexplored with timeless swagger. The RB2140 Original Wayfarer is the most recognizable style in the history of sunglasses. Since its initial design in 1952, the Wayfarer gained popularity among celebrities, musicians, artists and those with an impeccable fashion sense. As an iconic style, it always makes a statement. Quality Never Goes Out of Style
I've been wearing Wayfarers on and off for almost 40 years. That's a long time to be attached to any one product and that should speak volumes about how timeless these sunglasses are.First of all, here are the specs for the sunglasses I purchased and why I purchased these particular glasses:I bought the 2140s. The 2140s are the original Wayfarer design not the newer, smaller ones (those are 2132s) which personally, I don't like.I also opted for the 54mm lens size and I'm glad I did. Note that the 54mm lens Ray Ban has added to the lineup are larger lens - the 50mm were the original sized lens when these sunglasses were first introduced. There are a few good You Tube videos out there on this topic and if you're not sure what size lens you want, go see the videos. Just search for "Wayfarer 54mm versus 50mm" and that should get you to them. Surprisingly, I didn't realize how much of a difference the lens size would matter, but it did. I’ve got a large head and you’d be very surprised how much of a difference the larger lens make in a comfortable fit (and look).I also bought the polarized lens which are an option. They are more expensive and in fact, they retail for $200.00 dollars in stores. Why polarized? I live in Florida and I’m out or by the water quite a bit so for me it’s almost mandatory that I want to be able to cut down or eliminate the sun’s glare. It’s an expensive option but well worth it (this will cost you here on Amazon about $30.00 dollars more, give or take). So the designation I purchased were 901/58 (the 901 denoting the 2140 original Wayfarer and the 58 denoting the polarized lens). Why is this important? Because when you get your glasses, you’ll see along the inside left rail of the glasses “901/58”. You’ll also see “54018 3P”. The 54 means 54mm - the 018 refers to the spacing between lens (18mm) and the 3 means brightness level (3 means high brightness) and lastly the P means polarized. Why would anyone even care about this? Because there are fake Ray Bans being sold that don’t have this information on the left rail. It’s a good idea to go watch the videos on fake versus real Ray Ban’s - you know where to go to find the vids.I wore fake Wayfarers for a while simply because I got tired of shelling out $150.00 dollars every time I lost a pair or sat on them or they walked off, etc. The bottom line? There is a reason why people shell out $125.00 and more for Ray Ban Wayfarers and that reason is quality. The lens are beautifully crafted glass, not crappy plastic. The connection between the side rails and the sunglasses are 7 point hinges made of anodized metal. There is a metal rod that goes through the length of the side rail, too.Everything about Ray Ban screams (albeit subtlety) quality and excellence. The best part about buying them here on Amazon? The great price. You’ll easily save $50.00 dollars or more off what you’d spend at a mall or specialty sunglass shop.In summary I’ll say this: If you’ve never owned a pair of Wayfarers you owe it to yourself to try a pair. There is a reason why everyone from Jack Nicholson to Debbie Harry has worn them and why they never go out of style: quality never does.

A true classic
These are a classic and pair well with every outfit. I went with the polarized lenses, and while you can tell they are polarized, the quality is not top tier. That said, they are still a lightweight, functional, and very fashionable pair of sunglasses that I reach for all the time.

Legit, glass lenses, polarized, no scratches. Perfect.
With all of the comments about counterfeits, scratches, seconds, etc…, I was worried about what I would receive. However, these glasses are totally legit. I watched many videos on how to spot counterfeit Wayfarers and the pair that I received passed all of the tests. They were not scratched either. They look and feel brand new. They have glass lenses which produce a very vivid and sharp image, unlike polycarbonate lenses. I’m 6’1” and have a fairly large head asnc the 50mm size seems to fit well. I think the 54 would be too big. I’m very happy with them and got a great deal during Prime Days. Would highly recommend.

Used and Fakes
If you’ve ever loved a brand, you know how much it stings when that trust gets shattered. I’ve been wearing Ray-Ban Wayfarers since 1987 — over 35 years of memories, music, and moments behind those iconic lenses. I’ve also been wearing them when photographing the X Games to concerts, and weddings around the globe - they’ve been part of my life and my work as a photographer and filmmaker. After a major surgery this month — full right hip and partial right leg replacement — I decided to finally treat myself. A birthday gift. A small but meaningful reward for enduring all of pain and recovery so far. So when Prime Days hit, I placed my order through what looked like Ray-Ban’s official Amazon storefront. What showed up? A joke. No branded packaging from Italy. No serial number. Just a flimsy pair of shades tossed into a plastic bag. Used. Fake. And unmistakably cheap. Even the smell gave it away.Side by side with a real pair, the differences were glaring — sloppy hinges, blurry logos, missing authenticity gold foil sticker on the lens, the engraving on the outside of the lens instead of inside, a shiny logo on the pleather case that is broken and has even stitching (its supposed to be uneven on the edges), printed manual copies that are obviously not authentic, and a finish that felt more like a dollar store toy than a premium product. I’ve posted photos so you can see for yourself. This wasn’t just a bad buy — it was flat-out fraud. I’ve already reported it to Amazon and urge anyone considering these here to think twice. Don’t assume “Prime Day” or a recognizable brand means you’re safe. If it can happen to someone like me — a lifelong fan — it can happen to anyone. After everything I’ve been through, this was supposed to be a bright spot in my life. Instead, it left me frustrated, disappointed, and out of pocket. One star — only because zero isn’t an option. Buyer beware.

The greatest sunglass design of all time
I meant what I said in the headline! I have been buying these sunglasses since 2013 and I have probably bought them 3 or 4 times over because I wear them the most out of any of the sunglasses i've purchased over the years (many of my designer ones sit in the box because they don't match many occasions and off brand sunglasses feel tacky). These glasses fit me perfectly and they are durable enough to wear to the beach and outdoors but are also formal enough to wear with a suit.
