Bi-directional functionality for the win!
So let me preface this with a disclaimer: I am a professional tech that is used to using a laptop with a datalink adapter (DLA) to hook up to vehicles and machines for diagnostic troubleshooting and testing capabilities. I really don't like the idea of adding another hand-held stand alone product into my tool arsenal because I already have a laptop that can do more things than stand alone tablets can. In this case my laptop couldn't do more without dealer level software that isn't available to non-dealers (thanks GM and AC Delco) so I bought the Autel MP808K after some fairly cursory homework. My personal truck had an aftertreatment fault that needed bi-directional functionality to clear the impending speed limit due to an "exhaust fluid service" warning that needs to have 3 separate heaters on the def tank cycled and verified as passing tests before it will release the fault code and not eventually reduce my drive speed to 4mph because it's emissions related. Simple. Fix the issue and the fault code codes away. Except in this case the need for cycling the heaters to verify the fix requires you to be able to actually command test the function.A little bit of google-fu had me looking into the Autel products because they appear to be super user friendly, have models with bi-directional controls, and they aren't Snap-On. Been down the Snappy path before and to get a comparable diagnostic tablet from them it's twice the money to get a used one on the electronic bay. Literally went with the MP808K because it was cheap(ish), had a $40 off coupon available, and (most importantly) specifically showed the ability to cycle functions through a control module on the screen. If you are in the market and looking at this tablet, buy it. You're not looking at this for fun. You have a problem and you think a diagnostic tablet will help fix the issue. If the price didn't scare you off, you already know that you get what you pay for. It's super user friendly if you know how to use windows or any android based tablet. It did EXACTLY what I needed it to do without any kind of instruction other than about 5 min of poking around to get a feel for the system. It's not going to give you a happy ending but it'll make your day better when you open the box, register the tablet, hook up to your vehicle, and clear that pesky code in all of 3 minutes.Fix the problem, clear the codes, perform the needed tests, perform a stationary regen to clear the system and verify the repair, go about your business without having to bring your vehicle into a dealership that can't even tell you what day they can fix a released service campaign.Autel was also pretty quick at responding to my initial email asking if this model would do what I needed it to. I had already bought it by the time they responded but they did get back to me.Definitely recommend the product. And for those that feel inclined to comment, yes I know I can just delete the dpf and be done with it. That's not the point. Should be able to fix the stupid truck that you buy. Without having to make illegal modifications or spend $2k to do said modifications. I don't have issue with the aftertreatment system. I have issue with a manufacturer that claims to give access to software that is bought and paid for but restricts capabilities for everyone but their dealers.

Almost any car, anywhere, anytime, rechareable battery operated, good size screen, fast boot up
This unit comes in two cases, but if you are using it for your own vehicle, you wont have to carry them both around, as the main unit case has room for charging cable and the adapter you need for your car. In a shop like mine, the others are close at hand, but the case they come in is nice, the adapters are all locked in place, and marked very well. This unit allows for what I think to be, every possible test on the vehicle you connect, that is possible. It also has WiFi capability, so I updated everything as soon as I got logged in. You should plan on that taking a little while, as there are a lot of vehicles in this system It works great, does every test imaginable, and is especially useful on the Powerstroke diesels I work on, as it can do the tests I need for cylinder balance and glow plug functions. I also found that you can test all of your gauges on the dash, and calibrate them. I had read that, but it didnt occur to me until I went through the tablet and worked through the various screens and tests. If you need diagnostic tools, this one really looks like a better value than those "tool truck" models that cost a lot more. I will be recommending this one to the guys I know doing diesel work, and a couple of foreign car buddies too. Great Value and great device, I would but this one again if I was able to damage it, but the case is pretty sturdy and easy to grip as well, so this should last me a good long time. Thanks !!

Really Awesome Piece of Technology
Really awesome diagnostic tool. I'm not a professional mechanic or anything, but I like to do my own work from time to time. I bought this, because I just bought a new used 2017 Nissan Maxima. With it having so many electronic parts and pieces, I knew this tool would come in handy. The first thing I did with it was program a couple of new intelligent keys I bought for the car, because I was only given one copy from DriveTime. I think you do have to be a little tech savvy to navigate through some of the options, but if you're used to using a smart phone or computers you can probably figure it out. It didn't take me long to find the key immobilizer settings and begin reprogramming the keys. However, when I did it the first few times I was not holding the key fobs directly up against the push button start button long enough for the car the recognize the code on the key fob. I had to watch sort of a random YouTube video to realize that was the mistake I was making. After I followed the directions as were given on the diagnostic tool and held the fob up against the start button long enough, all of the key fobs were programmed. So I was very happy about that, after I figured it out. Anyway, I plan to use this diagnostic tool for more things, if needed and possibly program some of my friends or family's car keys, if they need it. Hopefully I can earn a little bit of the money back that I spent on it or at least save that much money by repairing problems myself.

Slow, but it can work
The slower processor doesnt seem like a deal breaker before you buy but even if you arent using it professionally it is painfully slow. Took about 40 minutes to auto scan a 2003 suburban. Cant imagine newer cars with even more modules. If you ever need to program or reprogram a module, ECU coding likely isnt what you need. The j2534 is what is needed to program modules if you find a bad one. This scan tool plus the j2534 is around 1500 dollars but you may regret not going an option further in the future if speed ever matters to you.
