Ultimate Star Wars, New Edition: The Definitive Guide to the Star Wars Universe

I originally bought this for myself but once my nephews saw it, they were all over it - which I didn't mind at all. They love Star Wars! So I gifted it to them to encourage them to read and to also learn more about the fictional universe. The high quality pictures help spark their interest and allows them to recognize the objects or characters in the movies. This book has a lot of information that puts a smile on their faces. And when they are happy, I'm happy.

This is the most complete, up-to-date (at least for now) Star Wars encyclopedia out there. It is comprehensively updated with character, technology, and vehicle profiles for every character, weapon or other pieces of technology, and vehicle which has appeared in a movie or one of the animated series like clone wars, rebels, and resistance. There are small hints that will tie into The Rise of Skywalker, but nothing that would be a major spoiler.In the character section, every character gets at least a paragraph of text. The main and/or major characters get at least a page if not two, and the most important characters also have a timeline that outlines their lives up to the point we last see that character whether because they died, or their story will continue on. Some of the character bios are fleshed out with material from the novels (e.g. Quinlan Voss), so this really touches on all aspects of the canon material (including the Battlefront II video game).There are also some behind the scenes material which shows concept art and storyboards from the movies, as well as behind the scenes set photographs. Those appear at the end of each section of the book and have a couple pages of material.Whether this falls into the category of a 'must-have" is really subjective. It is a great "coffee table" kind of reference book that most people are not going to sit down and read cover-to-cover. It will also very likely be updated down the line as more movies and TV series are released. Even though the Skywalker Saga is ending with the next movie, there will still be a ton of new material both on the Disney Plus platform and movies outside the Skywalker storyline released over the next decade. So this will be out of date at some point (as are any encyclopedias which have come before this one). Also, if you are just a casual fan of Star Wars you may find this just to be overkill. But, for anyone who is a die-hard fan, and has watched all the movies, TV series, read all the novels etc. this is a great pickup.

Any book from DK Publishing will NOT disappoint!This is an awesome, ultimate visual compendium of everything Star Wars and I don't think ANYTHING was missed.The layout is good and most images are decently sized with thorough descriptions.Even if you hated the last of the Disney SW movies, this book is a must have if you are a hard core Star Wars fan!And if Lucas and Favreau re-edit and reshoot parts of these last three movies, then any SW stuff pertaining to these last three movies as they are now, will make these books more collectible in the future, as these last trilogy movies may turn out to be completely different in the future!

Love this book really wasn’t into sci-fi till I was already grown and fall in love with star wars

This was full of information. It is a part of the leading up to Rise of Skywalker books and thus it doesn’t have anything from that movie. So the book is kind of obsolete now, but good authors and quality if you want to find one similar to it.

I bought this to have something “interesting” people (and myself) could flick through and it fits that use case nicely! Cool illustrations

This was purchased as a gift for my son and it was well worth the money spent 1000 times over.
