I purchased one shelf that I’d like so much, I bought a second one. These shelves are absolute genius as they don’t have legs and with a little work, install very tight and give you so much space where you normally will not have it.

This is a terrific shelf—once you figure it out on your own. Some reviews mention the terrible directions but I didn’t even have directions. Just before putting it back in the box to return, I stumbled on a reviewers video showing how to position. This was crucial and I am notes enjoying the shelf. It’s holding about 15lbs in my linen closet. Highly recommend the company include/update directions.

How this is described as a "Tension Shelf" is beyond me. There is absolutely no tension involved in design of this shelf. The ends do not push outwards towards the walls as I expected from the description. I expected it to be like my Shower Curtain Tension Rod. It is not. This shelf moves freely in both directions. It is supposed to be stabilized by 2 pins that screw into holes. As I did not receive a manual, I had to search the customer videos to see how it was supposed to work. The 4 Stickers with U shaped lips on them are supposed to stick on the walls and hold up the "feet" of each end. The stickers do not stay stuck (even after alcohol cleaning/drying the spots where they went). And the lips are not wide.After grappling with installation, it has fallen multiple times with nothing near the supposed weight limit on it. It is not useful to me if it will not stay put!

This would have been great, but I ordered it before I realized that we don't have a second wall to prop it against. So, we had to return it.

Item worked well. When installed correctly, it creates a sturdy shelf. It it’s important to completely read the directions prior to starting.The initial screws (small knob) that you physically insert are used to adjust length. The large, preinstalled, adjustment knob is what is used AFTER the length is set by the small screws. The large adjustment knob tightens the shelf against the wall. I kept tightening that knob until I could pull on the shelf without it sliding.

When I started buying products on Amazon I struggled not to give low ratings. Over time as I have bought products that turned out not to have the features advertised I have gotten more critical and less willing to be kind in my rating. This is one of the products that I thought held promise but IMO did not do so in fact.I gave the product 1 star for the following reasons:(1) It was not easy to install. As the space gets larger (mine was 36"), even after propping up the ends as the instructions specified, the bars tend to close in on themselves as you try adjust the feet to keep them tight to the wall. This is similar to the problem one runs into when installing adjustable spring tension rods in closets, but because this product is a "shelf" with 4 feet plus rods in two half sections (rather than one rod with two feet for s spring tension rod) it tends to twist in a number of directions at once and close in on itself. This is especially difficult to handle if one person is doing the installation alone (as I was).(2) The 4 feet do not have anti-slip pads (another reviewer noted this). They are plastic with another plastic "pad" material that contacts the wall. The pad material was not "sticky" enough to hold onto the surface of my painted (flat finish) closet wall. I'm sure I could have put a pad of another, stickier material on the bottom of each of the feet to remedy this, but I just don't think that I should have to re-engineer a product that I've purchased--I just "ding" it in the rating.(3) There are two "locking screws" (if that is the correct term) that are to be placed near/on two feet on one end. Ostensibly, this is so you can tighten the two sliding bar assemblies so that the shelf stays tight to the walls and the two sliding bar assemblies do not collapse in on each other. The directions indicate that you turn the screw to lock the sliding bars. However, the screws have pointed ends whereas the sliding bars are cylindrical (no surprise with that). The instructions do not indicate that you should puncture through the metal of the sliding bar with the pointed screw to lock it in place and there was no way that I was going to try that with a product that I might try to return. After several futile attempts to lock the pointy screws onto the curving bars I gave up and decided to write this review.(4) I did not factor this into the rating, because it is a cosmetic matter but, bears mentioning if "pretty" is important to you: The bars themselves look good, but, when combined with the off-white plastic ends/feet, IMO the entire product is kind of ugly-looking: as if a tubular baby gate and an old-person's walker combined to make offspring. The shelf actually looks much nicer in the pictures than in my home.Rather than use this product I am seriously considering getting several spring tension bars and a few pieces of wood or acrylic shelving, drilling holes along the perimeter of the shelving and zip tying it to the spring bars to make my own shelf. I am not handy but that would be easier than trying to assemble this contraption.One star for this product.
