Q: Have the straps been redesigned? I like the idea of this case, but with several people claiming that the straps break ...I am concerned.

My straps have held up really well. The case comes with a long shoulder strap that’s not leather (not sure of what to call the material..it’s a woven material), and I use that the majority of the time.

Q: Does this bag come in other colors?

Q: will textbooks and a 14 laptop fit?

Depending on the size (thickness) of a textbook, you should be able to fit one or more in the briefcase. The pockets are generous enough to hold a decent-sized text (not a ginormous book). You should also be able to fit a 14-inch laptop in at the same time. This is beautifully made and very sturdy. I love mine!
