Q: Ivwas told to purchase a full spectrum bulb for my parakeets as they dont get sunlight in my house. Would this bulb work?

This is an old question, and I want to answer it in case anyone else thinks this is an appropriate UVB light for any animal. Long story short; DO NOT use this for an animal's UVA/UVB requirements. This is not a UVB bulb. No where does it state it is a UV emitting bulb. LED lights (generally) do not emit UVA or UVB light. Only florescent bulbs, or specialty, high-end LEDs can do this at present. The full spectrum claim on the box refers to full spectrum light color (meaning it includes red, blue, and white lights), not UVA and UVB output. Additionally, the UV light requirements for birds, reptiles, and plants are all different. Zoo Med and Aracadia make good UVB bulb options and lamps for birds. Some reptile UVB bulbs/fixtures can be modified for use with birds, but if you are inexperienced with utilizing this equipment I would stick with the bird specific equipment.

Q: Can I just put this bulb in any lamp? I have a small desk lamp I want to put this in.

This will work great: Globe Electric 5698601 Heavy Base Architect Desk Lamp, 33.86-Inch. The reflector can be left off to allow a splitter or Par38 bulb. I prefer the single Par 38 bulb for the price point. These work great for seeds and seedlings.

Q: For the BR30 bulb, what is the diameter of the spot of light it makes at 9 inches?

Q: Can it work underneath the plant with a floor spotlight? I have an 8ft fiddle leaf fig tree and wall lamp not an option to have it above the plant.

Buy a "full spectrum" or a "grow light" fluorescent or bulb and hang it from the ceiling, if at all possible. Buy a cord with a socket and install a hook in the ceiling. Lighting from underneath is less efficient but not unheard of. The BIG problem is, the leaves will turn DOWNWARDS to face the light. Plants grow upwards to seek the light! Better yet, put it near a window that gets a decent amount of light, if you can.
