How thick in the material?

A bit thicker than shirt material. It's used for making scrubs for hospital staff I use it to make patchwork quilts and bags. It's decent quality.

Would I be able to use this as a front to cupboard to hide what's on my shelf?

Personally I wouldn’t, I doubt it would hang properly and a little bit thin for the job I think. But for the price it’s maybe worth a try.
