To charge it yes, it uses the standard uk plug. Once charged can be used unplugged.

Q: How do you remove the blades to wash underneath - do you simply clip it upwards from the blade side and remove and then clip it back in when dry?

Hello, This is Chara from Philips and I would be happy to help you! In order to clean your groomer, take off the attachments and cutter and clean the area underneath with water. Do not use soapy water or any cleaning detergents, as this can remove the protective oil on the cutter and effect its performance. Wash and dry the attachments separately before reattaching them to the groomer. Never dry the cutting unit with a towel or tissue as this may cause damage. Please, ensure before cleaning the device that the power is off and the appliance is disconnected from the wall socket and never immerse the appliance in water.
