McGraw-Hill's Dictionary of American Idioms Dictionary (McGraw-Hill ESL References) 4th Edition

This dictionary is outstanding. It has helped me a lot. It provides the definition of any idiom you can imagine. For people who speak English as a second language is the perfect tool to improve their understanding of the way English is spoken in USA. I have bought many English books at Amazon.com, but this one is one of the best. Benny

I am a Middle School teacher and I use this Idioms Dictionary as a reference for my students daily. The definitions are clear and succinct and it is so easy find what you are looking for. It's nice that it works as well for a twelve or thirteen year-old as it does for a well-educated adult.

Another fine book. It is easy to use (like a dictionary on idioms). Clear printing regular, bold words, couple with explanation in simple sentences. I highly introduce this book to whomever has a need for American Idioms.

I like this dictionary because of its richness - 14000+ idioms.I own Kindle Edition and like it, but don't like that the contents have no entries for every letter (A, B, C etc). There is only "Dictionary" entry that leads to 'A'. I also expected to see Key word index keys to be somehow hyper links.

Perfect gift for an Asian friend who is befuddled by many words and phrases of American English (he can use this book to learn the definition of the word 'befuddled'.)

pretty thorough. this primarily provides a definition and an example usage for each phrase. if you're looking for the origins/history of an idiom, this is not what the book you're looking for.

Good as a reference when you see a tournure you don't understand. Nice to have the book nearby your desk.
