Timiy Professional B Flat Chinese Hulusi Cucurbit Gourd Flute Ethnic Musical Instrument with Case for Beginner Music Lovers

The media could not be loaded.  I’m a beginner and I highly recommend this instrument as a starter. I used to play the flute and assumed it would be similar but after reading the chart that came with the Hulusi flute, I learned that I have to really control my diaphragm and breathing to get the right tunes. The change in intensity of breathing can change the pitch and tune. After figuring that out for about an hour, I was able to freestyle an old favorite song of mine from the Chinese film Peacock Princess. I uploaded a video of my playing the Hulusi and a picture of the instrument. The quality is decent given the price. The case looks different from the pictures but I don’t mind.

To produce different pitches you have to blow quite a lot of air through the instrument. Initially I was worried that the instrument was faulty but it was user error. The instrument is cheaply made with plastic but you get what you pay for. Its beginner friendly however there is difficulty playing pieces that require more than 1 tone. This is due to the side pipes lacking a release mechanism. Instead there are rubber stoppers inside that can be difficult to remove without tweezers.

Plays well, needs to be blown hard.

Totally fantastic. I went for the cheapest Hulusi that could get to me the fastest and I got something that was actually wonderful instead of something cheap and fast.For those having trouble getting different notes when instead of all the same note when you blow, just adjust your air stream and mouth shape differently as much as you need and you find the sweet spot that allows the instrument to speakEdit:There is now low drone at all. So good for beginners but not as much for complex songs that use the drone tones. Also the pipes do not separate from the gourd meaning that condensation from playing will build up with no way of being removed causing you to have to stop from the amount of water in the instrument, which will likely lead to mold or mildew inside the instrument itself in the long run, especially since it cannot be cleaned.
