the book is amazing, i dont think, i need to certify herbt Schildt, he is god in programming. if you really want to learn clean C# programming, youknow where to go, yes this is the book. the only snag i found is it doenst have database connectivity. other than that. it is masterclass.this book is well suited for people who doesnt have any programming knowledge.

I can barely remember reading this but it was good in its time.

This book explains very well all features of C# accompanying the theory with practice.The examples are very clear and allow to get easily the mastery of the language.

This book is not all things to all people, but I think it has some very unique usage cases that I wanted to quickly summarize.This book is pretty good if you want to learn how to program from the basics, but not the best. The opening chapters can be quite difficult, but (I think) if you take the time to slowly work through the examples you can learn everything you need to know to program. It's all there, it's very accessible, with great writing and great example code, but it does come at you very fast. But with some patience (and possibly an experienced friend, like Google), you can figure it out. Plus, after you get past the basics you will be richly rewarded with some great writing on C# specific programming techniques.This book is great if you know C++/Java and want to learn C#/.NET. In this case you can simply zoom through the opening chapters. No really, there aren't C# exclusive bits hidden in the opening chapters. You can just zoom through them without even the slightest worry that you're missing anything. Just read the example code so that you can become more familiar with the syntax, that's pretty much it. You'll be ready by the time you get to the second half, where all the meat of C# is.Lastly, this book is BEYOND EXCELLENT for people in my particular situation. I've been away from programming for 3 or 4 years, and I come from a Java background. Not only did I need to learn C#, but I needed a brief refresher on programming in general. This book gave me exactly that, giving me both theory and examples to brush up with, but not bogging down in myriad details usually reserved for first time learners. Then giving me the myriad details when I got to the C# specific coding techniques. Excellent, 5 stars easily. I'd give it 6 if I could. Trust me, "C# 4.0, the Complete Reference" is completely indispensable for someone in my position.So, if you're someone who has just started programming again, comes from a C++/Java background and you really want to learn C# (and you want a book that is easy to read, has great examples and an occasional touch of humor). Stop, you're search is over, buy this book.

I have read a few C# books now, this one is absolutely excellent and certainly the best I have read so far. The author has the knack of making even the most complex of topics seem simple by breaking them up into easily understandably fragments and then brings those fragments together to form a complete picture. I've had a number of light bulb moments whilst reading this book - highly recommended!

If you need a printed reference for C#, (in preference to looking up things on-line), It would be difficult to find a better resource than this book. Excellent explanations, and useful examples to try out.
