MGMLP1 Active Air 3-Way pH, Light & Moisture Meter

I am very impressed with this tri-function gardening meter. However my comments and experience with it are restricted to its use in container gardening where soil type is fairly consistent and of good quality. The light meter functions extremely well. (Readings taken in November in Texas at 11 am) Total shade outside on a cloudy day gives ~100 rating, cloudy day inside at a window 200-300. cloudy day outside partial shade ~500 reading cloudy day no shade 800-1000 sunny day, no shade 2000 ("pegged unit") Moisture reading also seems fairly accurate. Obviously dry container not watered for 2 weeks gave a 1 Container not watered for 5 or 6 days and dry to touch down to 4" gave a 2-3 reading. Container well watered 48 hr previously gave a 5-6 reading. Container well watered previous morning gave a 8 reading. Container OVER watered 6 hrs previously gave a 10 reading. I have not tested pH meter function in a well calibrated manner, but it seems to work well, IF the instructions are followed. You cannot just stick it in soil to get the pH reading you have to do as instructions state. I took readings with "used" potting soil amending it 4 different ways and then watering mildly and leaving set for 3 days. Soil with small amount of baking soda added gave an alkaline 8 reading, Soil with nothing added gave ~7 reading Soil with small amount of vinegar added 5-6 Soil with small amount of soil acidifier gave slightly less than 5. Can't ask for much better results for an inexpensive little unit. I have owned 2 or 3 other brands of these little gadgets (without light function) none of them gave decent or even consistent results, this one does.

Simple to use, very accurate

After trials with house and garden plants, the only measurements seem to be completely dry or completely wet. pH does not match (or come close to) litmus paper with same binary result. Not sure what light meter measures but mobile app is definitely more useful. Maybe a defective (or cheap) unit.

I bought this meter because I saw an extension agent using it. I’m sure it’s fine for large pots and outdoors. If you’re trying to measure the soil in a small pot, like 4” square, the metal pieces that go into the soil are thick, and could disrupt the roots.

It takes TWO...Because the first one I received did not work at all. The display needle was stuck in one position and did not change regardless of moisture level. Amazon, as usual, made returning and exchanging perfectly simple, so can't complain there. The second one I received is working perfectly fine, although one of the sensor tips has mysteriously disappeared. I only use it for moisture testing so it is functional for my use.

We love the multi use features, PH, sun location & moisture. It is a must have for creating your garden. It is also portable and can be used for projects in different locations.

I'm not a person with a green thumb so I really have used this device to make sure I do not over water my plants. It is very helpful. Get one! You'll be glad you did.

El aparato funciona muy bien con la humedad. Los otros dos modos no los uso mucho, pero solo con saber si las plantas tienen suficiente agua ahora que viene la canicula de Julio, por el precio que tiene es una gran compra.

Es un equipo bastante preciso y muy útil Para tener un buen control de las plantas Para el precio que tiene merece la pena tenerlo. No lleva pilas y va muy bien.
