Don't get the e-book - you can't even select the text, and it doesn't work well on ipad nor kindle!
I was really disappointed with this :( I really hope the authors fix it. The text is too small to read - they are like images or something. - I suppose I should have gotten the actual hard copy of the book. Making Out in Japanese was awesome (the actual book) - but this book doesn't seem to give the same excitement while reading. - in the image, look how small the text is, and note that since its an image you cannot simply increase the font size! thats ridiculous and depressing at the same time. - please please fix this, just make it text so it will increase with font size... >_<

overall still a good book if you really need it
Bought as a gag gift for my friend who has just married a Vietnamese woman.. book covers the basics but seems to be a little lacking on some subject... overall still a good book if you really need it.

Wild Book
This is for Adults only and wouldn't recommend using it unless you are with very good Vietnamese Friends or Family.

Outrageous "social evil"
This book is suitable for the advanced and mature student of Vietnamese language and culture. The personal pronouns that it teaches are down right rude and offensive and can be used safely only within very narrowly defined social relations. Without having a fair grasp of the personal pronoun system of Vietnamese to begin with you could easily get yourself into trouble with this book. The same can be said of the insults and name calling. What would be a cute exchange between old buddies or grey haired girl friends from their school days could lead to violence with students, servants, co-workers, and even family, not to mention strangers. All my Vietnamese friends were scandalized, and immensely amused, by it.Don't be surprised if Customs confiscates this book from you at the airport. This is a "social evil" so if you do manage to get a copy in country be very careful about whom you share it with, and especially keep it out of the hands of children and impressionable adults. You will find that Vietnamese teachers can comment on it and give you insights into culture that the book itself doesn't explain, but which nevertheless raised the subject. That said there are some highlights that make this a great book:The slang is authentic and well known throughout Vietnam - the sort of gutter language spoken by the lowest classes - and if you take care to be polite and use it wisely can get you invited to great night life whether you like drinking, dancing, or sex.It also helps to know what a few rude others are saying in front of you and your spouse or girlfriend - just defuse it gently by saying "Toi nghe duoc" = "I can hear" and smiling sweetly... don't get angry. The section on fighting in the book ignores the danger of a gang attack if you did get involved in a physical altercation. It is also a great gift to mixed race couples - for pillow talk naturally, but do give the "foreign" spouse a heads up on avoiding "tao" and "may" or he or she is likely to get kicked out of the house. If this books goes to another edition I hope the authors will include a vastly expanded slang dictionary - both naughty and nice. Vietnamese is a very rich and expressive language reflecting the rich inner life of the Vietnamese themselves.

Rubbish, useless
Completely useless on Kindle. The translation in Vietnamese and the phonetic phrase cannot be read as it is in 4 point print and cannot be increased, increasing the font only increases the English phrase and has no effect on the translation which stays too tiny to read
