This is the one.
Best packaging I have EVER come across for any online order ever! Every piece was individually bubble-wrapped, nestled together, and then duck-taped together to ensure that it was not harmed during international shipping. While there was a shipping delay, I ordered it the day before all of India locked down due to coronavirus. I am convinced by the swiftness of the seller's response to my email that this would not happen under any normal circumstances. (And even if it did... a ball-winder is a once-in-a-lifetime purchase, so you could probably stand to wait a few weeks for quality like this.)As for the winder itself: I am blown away!!! I genuinely think that this is higher-quality than the one used by my LYS, and I expect to be able to pass it down to any heirs of mine that knit. (I'm 26 right now, so this is saying something.) It is solid, finished wood, with high-quality metal attatchments. Very heavy, with perfect weight distribution. The metal bits arrived clean, and do not wobble in their sockets at all. There is a hole in the side for the table clamp to fit into, but it was heavy enough for me to just set it on my carpet and wind away without any trouble. There are two reasons I give it 4/5 stars for ease of use:1. While it was easy enough to assemble based on the seller's pictures, there were no printed instructions. I had some trouble fitting the part that the cake winds around against the little knob at the proper angle. However, the angle it naturally wants to rest at takes enough tension off of the rubber belt that I have decided to store it that way, and consider it a net positive. It was just unintuitive to someone who hadn't owned this style of winder before. (The belt probably will need replacing every few years, but only because that's how rubber works - it is of the highest quality available.)2) The first cake I wound on it turned out slightly looser than I would have expected. In my picture, it is the one on the left, with one wound at my LYS on the right for sake of comparison. But this could very well be because I'm inexperienced.Overall, I am exceedingly happy with my purchase. This was a great deal!!!

Works very well, there is a learning curve
The best approach to using it is consistent winding. Avoid stopping in the middle of winding your yarn, and don't hold the yarn between the swift and the winder. It's tempting to do that, but you're better off just letting the yarn flow naturally through the metal coil directly from the swift. I've also discovered that my swift can't be too tight. The yarn needs to be loose, but not falling off. Then I position myself where I can change which hand I use to wind the yarn (bc my arm gets tired), and as long as I'm smooth and consistent I get a perfect ball each time. My best tip is to fold the tag from your yarn length wise (or any piece of cardstock) and insert it into the center of your ball, then pull the ball off over the folded tag. You'll preserve your center, and keep your tag for future reference. If your yarn gets tangled, it's ok to slowly unwind the yarn back on to your swift and start over. We spend a lot of money of nice yarn, don't let the learning curve of using a new ball winder ruin your yarn. Just slowly unwind it back onto the swift and start again. You can do it, I believe in you.

Don't bother
I have gone through two plastic winders and wanted something sturdier a better looking. This is both, and it's a bonus that it doesn't have gears to break (problem with the plastic ones). However, it doesn't work well. It doesn't turn smoothly or easily and the biggest problem is the clamp. There is one clamp, it's in the middle front and it acts more like an axis for the device to spin around, no matter how tightly it's clamped to the work surface. Also, the wood part of the clamp is barely a quarter as long as the device is wide, so it doesn't sit level on the surface it's clamped to and rocks back and forth when it's not trying to spin around the clamp. Honestly I'd rather buy the $20 plastic one, knowing I'll have to replace it in a year or two, but that it will work great until then, than pay $50 for this thing that barely works.

Works Great!
I was concerned about how well this yarn ball winder would work when I read some of the other reviews. I took a chance and ordered it, and I don't regret it at all. I followed the recommendations another reviewer had about setting it up, and I have really put mine to the test over the last two weekends. It has made fast work of winding hanks into balls. I've used it with 100% worsted weight wool, 100% worsted weight cotton, 100% worsted weight acrylic, and a sock weight superwash merino/nylon blend. Everything wound up nicely. The bolt clamp isn't long enough to use at my dining table, but that is only because my tabletop is very thick. It should be fine for a surface that has a more standard thickness. As other reviewers have stated, this product comes with NO assembly instructions at all; however, there is only one way the pieces will fit together. The assembly and operation is very straightforward if you look at a picture of the yarn ball winder. I am definitely happy that I saved my money with this winder instead of buying one of the similar, yet much pricier, ball winders.I also recommend buying the Needlecraft Tabletop Amish Style Wooden Yarn Swift, 2.5-6-Feet if you don't already have a yarn swift.

Yarn cake winder
This is a great yarn cake winder! It’s high quality and winds a consistent, nice cake. I just wound all the yarn balls in my house into cakes and had no problems. At first I received a defective product, but the company Nagina replaced it quickly and the new one works perfectly.

Nice quality
This is a very nice product. I had some weird red staining on the wood on the bottom plate but it works very nice the clamp is it really big enough to help me out but I just kind of hold it in place I’m very pleased with it I would buy it again.

Doesn’t work
I bought this item just under a year ago and have tried several times to wind from my swift. It just doesn’t do it properly and (not sure if this makes sense) it winds on one slope. My husband is an engineer and he identified the issue which was the yarn holder bit touching the dome below which makes it turn. He said the contact between them was poor, however there was a screw which he might be able to tighten. Unfortunately the screw just turns in the hole. I have tried not to be too technical in describing the issue but in a nutshell this just doesn’t work. My hubby explained in detail and I understand but it’s too long to put in a review. I can’t give more than one star as despite looking sturdy and well made it really isn’t.

Wool winder problems
This product needed a lot of extras done by my husband. The winding handle needed the spindle glueing in place plus a washer to stop the spindle wearing the wood away. Also the clamp doesn't hold in place on the table is needed another clamp on the end to stop swivelling. Not very great considering the price.

An excellent craft item—perfectly functional, economical, and aesthetic, too!
This Maplewood center-pull ball winder is an excellent purchase. It is pretty enough to leave displayed in my room, it functions perfectly, it is sturdy and produces tidy yarn muffins. Although it was sent to France from INDIA (!), it arrived in four days! How did that happen? The ball winder was not assembled, but assembly was quick and easy, even without instructions. The clear photo on AMAZON was all that was needed.

Looks beautiful works after a few modifications
Having made a few modifications this is now winding lovely even cakes, but you do have to wind carefully. Not too fast and watch the tension. Is there a knack to this? The first 3 cakes were beautifully wound then it all went pear shaped or rather it all became a tangled mess. Have tried a drop of oil on the spindles and light sanding and wax on the wood pieces where they come into contact ????? HELP!!!

good for the price
brilliant to use but.....when tightening up the clamp to the table, the base tips up so i got a local Co to bend the screw post for me to a better angle and that is better but not perfect, altho it now holds firm on the table. Could do with an insert for the screw thread into the base..
