I would highly recommend this for a beginner, It works very well and is easy to use. The price is great too.

Great size for kids but it didn't work at all.
It didn't work right out of the box. Put in fresh batteries and the power came on but I tested it on different metals and the sensor never went off so my unit was defective. It was a great size though for kids. I wished it work as my Garrett model was too large for my 7 year old to use.
