The Science of Mind: Deluxe Leather-Bound Edition Hardcover – October 25, 2012

It was inspiring and made me realize how we really do need to understand the workings of the mind to heal and improve our life! I had read one of his other books which referenced this book but I never paid attention to it, without knowing I got this book and realized I had read this author before. It was destiny for me to read this book. I also got the audible version! I have listened to it at least twice.

Super fast delivery and soooooo clean.

I ordered a used version and I have to say it looks brand new. Some underlining, but not much. I was really impressed. Note: it was listed as “Very good” condition.As to the actual text, I’ve just started but thus far it’s beautifully written and easy to understand. I’m really pleased.

Ernest Holmes, founder of the Church of Religious Science, wrote this epic book as a "textbook" for those interested in a practical approach to metaphysical and New Thought ideals. I was first introduced to many of the concepts back in 1994, when I read "Creative Visualization" by Shakti Gawain (another book I highly recommend), when I was going through a particularly dark period of my life, and seeking answers I could not find in traditional orthodox religion. While "Creative Visualization" was an adequate introduction, "The Science of Mind" really expands upon and explains these concepts more thoroughly. It is intimidating at 600+ pages, but once you get into it, you really don't think about it's length! Since I first acquired this book in 2007, I've read it 3 times straight through, and will read it again, I'm sure. Since I have applied these concepts to my own life, I've noticed definite improvements, and notice more every day! The underlying message that everything is One, and that we are all an integral part of the Divine Creative Principle is both comforting and empowering. "It is done unto you as you believe" is a truth for all ages. I really feel that Ernest Holmes was ahead of his time when he wrote this book, and the truths it contain transcend time - in fact, a lot of this is more relevant now than it was when it was originally written. I've long since collected every book by Ernest Holmes I can get my hands on, and I find all of his work very illuminating and spiritually liberating. His books always make me feel good about life, and give me the realization that I do, in fact, have control over my life. If you can get them, I also recommend the "Change Your Thinking, Change Your Life" 6 volume home study course in "The Science of Mind", which gives an even deeper understanding of the concepts explained in this book.On a sidenote, this is the 1938 revised and expanded volume of "The Science of Mind". The original 1926 version was shorter and, in my opinion, not as well organized as far as subject matter. I have tried to read it, but find this 1938 version much easier to navigate. However, the 1926 version does contain an entire section on psychic phenomena, which was intentionally omitted from the 1938 revision, as Ernest Holmes (according to his biography "That Was Ernest" by Reginald C. Armor) felt that much of it just couldn't be proven. Still, it is an interesting read for those interested in the field of psychic phenomena. There will shortly be a combined SOM volume available through Tarcher/Penguin which contains both versions, for those interested in reading both!

I have been practicing the Science of Mind philosophy in my life for several years now. I already wrote an extensive review of the "definitive edition" in regards to that, but I will again say that this is a book that I feel should be required reading for life! I have read it 3 times all the way through, and am currently doing the home study course for a second time to refresh my mind of the wonderful principles contained within. Now, onto this deluxe edition - I have been waiting for some time now for a deluxe, leather bound edition. I missed out on the last one, which I think was in 2006 (I came into SOM in 2007). So when I saw this new version, in celebration of the book's 75th anniversary, which will be next year, I just had to have it! And I have to say, Tarcher/Penguin did a very nice job with it. It comes in sturdy, keepsake box, and the book, itself, feels so good in my hands. It is so elegant, with it's leather bound cover, gold lettering on the cover, ribbon book marker, and gold edged pages - a worthy edition of this classic. I'm happy that they kept the Forward by Jean Houston from the 1997 edition, but they also added a new introduction by Kenn Gordon. As additional bonuses, the book appropriately opens with the Science of Mind declaration of principles, and added at the end are Ernest Holmes' "Sermon by the Sea", as well as the complete Concordance by Dr. Al Lowe and Rev. Martha Ann Stewart. The Concordance has been available separately for some years now, but it's nice to have it included in the book. Also, I have been looking for the "Sermon by the Sea" for many years (someone here at amazon has been trying to sell a copy for $210 for quite some time now - that alone makes it worthwhile) so it was nice to finally be able to read that, as well. All in all, I have to say bravo to Tarcher/Penguin for a job well done! This is a wonderful keepsake for those, like myself, who consider this book one of the best, if not the best, book on living a spiritual life ever written. It's a true spiritual classic given the royal treatment, and if you're looking for an elegant edition of it in time for the 75th anniversary, look no further!At the time I wrote this review, it was selling for $56, which is a great deal! I would definitely recommend getting it at this great price while you can!

This book gives you the tools to literally change your life. Just have an open mind, and watch the magic happen.

Okay im like on page seven, I likely will update this review after I finish it, very good penman ship and Ernest has Earned-to-nest(his book i mean) in my book collection.. My only problem so far is the term "religious science" is very oxy-moronic... Other than that, Very interesting ideas so far.. peace

For it to be a new book, binding and edges of book showed signs of wear/tear.

Although the blurb states that this is a facsimile copy of the 1926 edition it is clearly NOT.It states it is not an OCR copy, I am not even sure that that is true. However, a brief perusal of the ugly blocks of modern text doesn't throw up any obvious OCR errors, so perhaps it is the text transcribed - if so, they need a designer at Martino Fine Books.

This book is very close to my heart.It shares the beautiful logical truth about humans and their relationship with the universe.No agenda and no BS - just a complete course on how to better yourself, be free from fear, worry and doubt live the life you came here to.Highly recommended.

This is an excellent book. It makes sense of all those things in life that you never understood. For anyone on their spiritual journey, this is a must read. Be open minded and you will begin to understand how your life really works.Ernest Shurtleff Holmes gives an insight into how the mind really works.

We have been inundated with negative messages from our chaotic life. This book explains how our mind works, and how we create our own Destiny by using or misusing our mind. One of the most influential thinker of 20th century. Great book. Daily reading keeps your mind clean, and protects you from negative influences.

I adore this book..I came across it through Maya Feinnes who mentioned it on Face book.. She is a Yoga teacher and is very spiritual.it is "A Complete Course In Science Of Mind and Spirit"A beautiful thought provoking book.
