Superb but...
Larry Clark did a brilliant job of explaining the story of real life day to day teens in America. Harmony Korine wrote the screenplay at only 18 which is an accomplishment on it's own to say the least. Superb but lacks the shocking quality that it held when it came out. I dunno, chalk it up to the current social state. Still definitely worth owning and becoming harder to find.

“Kids?” I grew up with kids like this!
As a high school student in New York, I would sit at the tables in the cafeteria overhearing the other students unabashedly talk about their sexual exploits. The boys would talk about their conquests. The girls bragged about their experiences with equal abandon - though they expressed some anxiety about pregnancy. Both boy and girls spoke of STDs with a hint of dread. Go in raw or protected? Some spoke with straightforward F-bombs, while others used words that had more than one syllable. I, not being in the loop, listened to the stories with shock and fascination. As a college student, I watched Larry Clark’s film with a degree of familiarity. There are parallel scenes where the boys and girls talk about their turn-ons. The boys talk about their experiences without caring about what the girls feel. The girls talk about their enjoyment of sex as well as the less enjoyable, annoying aspects. It all centers around one boy, Telly - an HIV carrier - merrily playing the “virgin surgeon” and unknowingly infecting the girls he screws at the same time. He sets his eyes on one girl - Darcy - in Greenwich village and plots to add her as a notch on his belt of conquests. At the same time, Jenny, a girl Telly had sex with a year ago, discovers she is HIV positive. She had only one sexual encounter - with Telly - and goes on a hero’s journey to catch up to Telly and hopefully stop him from infecting another girl.Along the way, both characters come across a motley crew of New York denizens - sleazy cab drivers, a paraplegic panhandler, the priapic Harold, and the DJ’s collectively known as N.A.S.A. Also along for the ride is Telly’s sidekick Casper, who brags about how many girls he’s banged while you, the viewer, knows damn well he is a virgin.Clark fetishizes the male body as Telly and Casper spray each other with water during the hot summer day they are on the prowl. Two girls show off their figures when they, along with Telly, Harold and Casper, break into a daytime pool during the night.Clark and Harmony Korine capture 90s New York in all its pre-gentrified glory. Brownstones and apartments with plaster peeling off wall and ceilings scrawled with magic marker graffiti serve as havens for the kids’ orgies. There is also an interlude of four boys around 11 or 12 puff-puff-and-passing a joint. The film also features future movie and TV stars Chloe Sevigny (Boys Don’t Cry, Big Love) and Rosario Dawson (Daredevil, The Mandalorian).I also recommend buying Larry Clark’s photo album “Tulsa” which proves as a starting point in his career which led to “Kids.”

Part of my teenage years- and the 90s
This came out when I was in high school- when it finally came out to rent (VHS) at Blockbuster (lol..blast from the past huh!) Myself & my group of friends were told by one of their parents that we should see it...we were around 16 or so.. seeing that - especially after smoking weed- was too "real" and, as it was supposed to do- it made me increasingly uncomfortable. -But at the same time, it's a part of the 90s..the things that were going on at that time, gen x, our broken home'd ex hippie parents, who worked more than they were at home trying to manage all the bills..teens took advantage and a lot of us had older siblings, cousins, our peers and the streets that taught us about life.. The 90s were just a crazy time- we had so much talent- it's sad that so much of that is gone due to ODs, murders, and some that will probably forever be mysteries with conspiracy theories that will continue to haunt me. Sad too, that the guy that plays Casper is one of those that isn't with us anymore. On a lighter note- the soundtrack was awesome then & will always remain so.KIDS is a part of the 90s..and I had a copy years ago but I'm pretty sure my ex either lost it or broke it- so I wanted to get another before it becomes something that's not in my price range!

A BIG WARNING GUYS
Well, this would have been a shock back then, but now? Things change pretty fast and now we see many scary things about kids.We see kids making porns with their own hands and spread in websites and that was even back in the end of 20th century. This movie was made back in 1995 which is pretty rusty now but still seeing how the boys only interested in girls about using them as fulfill their sexual desire and that only. They even rape the girls who are totally unconcious drunk or sleeping totally tired. They really don't care how they feel or what their furure will be whether they will be pregnent later or will have some kind of sexual decease or something. There is this one scene when this boy is raping this girl who just got a test and receives the report that she got AIDS and goes to the party and totally tired and falls asleep in the couch and this boy rapes her in her sleep. He for sure will have AIDS too. Very scary moment but also he desereved in on the other hand. But again who is to be blamed? What did all the teachers did in school? Just took all the money from the government and play? What is wrong with this country called America? Land of dream? And what about drugs? Are you guys asking for more freedom using drugs? Good idea guys. Ruining your life.I had chances to live with drugs when I was a kid against my will and couldn't get away from it for some time and now I never touch it anymore. It's a nightmare. There are some things that you shouldn't do in life . Being promiscuous, do drugs and so on.Now being as a kid, that's a whole different story. When grow up, there's a lot of time to be corrupted why now in their golden times? These kids have no one to take care of, say some things that will be helpful to them. They have nothing to do but have sex or searching for girls to shoot their sexual desire and get done with it. And then some more drugs and lost their agony. Living in a dream world. There's no need to think about the future cause there is none. What if when they grow up?They will end up with using the government money on the street no house bunch og unwanted kids haning around them uneducated wasting their life doing nothing no job.Is that what they want? Then again who did told them all this?No one.It is all adult's fault.Where were they when they need one?All they did was when the kids asked for money they said I don't have one, when will you come back home? They didn't even asked where are you going. In Korea parents are so crazy about education they practically use all the money for education and suffer from mortgage. I might say what will they gain from it? Will they grow up and pay back from their effort? Na.But then again, at least they tried. They didn't abandoned their children. They, like compete with other parents, took care of their child.Wake up America.Time to be real.
