Anne Frank
I am horrified by the way people were treated back then. Children and women. She was a very strong person and took this hardship like a champion. There are such things as monsters in this world. And she was able to battle these monsters the best she could.

REQUIRED READING
While rather monotonous in detailing the daily, ordinary lives of a group of people in hiding from the Nazi's in (at the time) Holland, that very ordinariness is the whole point! These were ordinary people with lives, hopes and dreams, whose situation illustrated that these Nazi horrors (or any fanatical philosophy that scapegoats and dehumanizes "the other") can happen to ANYONE if we don't learn from history and remain vigilant! The Trump cult phenomenon, the children ripped from parents at the border here in the U.S. (many irretrievably), the calls for beheadings and firing squads against the "liberals," and the utter immunity from reality and empathy demonstrated by his legions of followers, taught me to my great sorrow that no country is immune and that the fearful and easily manipulated among us can bring us to this place of horror very quickly! The U.S. came very close to the end of democracy, and as illustrated by Trump's ongoing attempts to stage a coup with continuing support by his unwavering base, we will remain in peril indefinitely unless we can turn our society around with education and unity! (An extremely uphill battle!) I will add that I was greatly impressed by Anne Frank's intelligence, human insight and writing abilities for her age; she was a great loss to humanity even while she leaves an enduring legacy!

Excellent
I thought the book was a great read in the aspect that you can see how much Anne Frank was growing during her time in hiding. It's very sad how her life ended. I felt like I knew her while reading the book.

some of the words are wrong...
It is like this was taken from a PDF and transcribed. Words like 'close' are written as 'dose.' In fact every time there is a double letter combo that looks like another letter, it will almost always be written incorrectly. Classified will be 'dassified.' The word journal is 'joumal.' furnace is 'fumace,' etc. And so on, if there is a letter combination that looks like anther letter, chances are it will be transcribed incorrectly. Of course the story is fantastic and so hard to believe that she was only 13 when she started, "Dear Kitty." And the story is an excellent historical document written from the eyes of a child. It is an amazing story. This is my 4th time to read the book, so I guess that is why getting the wording wrong, really upset me.

I Get The Gist, But The Typos Are Distracting
This is a story I felt I needed to read. And as long as I skim over all of the numerous typos in this edition, I "get" the story. I don't know how or why the typos are so bad, but most of them are consistently bad that I can ignore them and still understand what she is trying to say. I just wish they'd spend some time (or even ask one of us) to edit this edition.

my goodness she enjoyed it, had a tear while reading it
I bought this for my 11year old granddaughter as she was curious about the goings on during the Second World War and the atrocities, thought that she would not really get into it, my goodness she enjoyed it, had a tear while reading it. An excellent book.

Very poor edition.
Person took extracts and interpreted Anne's thoughts and didn't leave the reader scope to develop own empathy or thoughts. Bought for 12 year old grand daughter who gave up after 1st chapter and read original. Very disappointed.

Recommended for young readers
I wondered about reading this to my kids (9 and 12 at the time) but it's a book every young person should be aware of and prompts lots of discussion. This edition is slightly abridged but not hacked and disjointed, it still flows and where passages have been removed there are explanatory notes to explain why.Highly recommended.
