I got the Big Dot over the regular sized Dot. Quick to find the sight picture draw after draw.
Fantastic Big Dot sight for a S&W Model 60-14. It fits other models as well. I debated for like a month over the Big Dot vs the Regular or normal sized Dot. Glad I went with this one. It is very easy and very quick to pick up the sight. Now, on installation. Everyone says it is a 1/16" pin. NOT. It is smaller. 1.40 mm. Some of the older revolvers may have a 1/16" pin, but most newer revolvers have the smaller pin. You can find the punch on here too. And the drill bits as well. You'll want a 1.40mm drill bit. I bought an IRWIN #54 which is a 1.40mm or 0.0550" sized bit. Tiny bit and punch. Now you will hear that you have to drill out both sides so as not to widen or wallow out the pin hole on the barrel. Don't fear this. Why you have to do this is because when you hold the sight and turn it over, you'll see the part that fits into the barrel slot is actually hollow. So you can fit it into the slot, clamp it into place with a small wood clamp, and slowly drill through one side and when you feel it go through, remove it and turn to the other side and slowly drill that side through, while never allowing the drill bit to go completely through both sides, where you could possibly round out the hole. Clean it all up by removing all the drill shavings, apply the applied thread lock to the sight and the pin and slowly drive the pin back in it's hole and get it even on both sides. Note you will be reusing the pin that is in the gun. Let the gun sit for 24 hours so the thread lock can set. Some say 5 hours or 12 hours. Just give it 24 hours to be safe. Yes, some people have to file the sight block down a tad to get it to fit into the slot. I did too. I used a good stone with a sharp 90 degree angle and slowly ran it across the stone a couple of times on each side and tested the fit until I got it to push in with just a tad resistance. You can see this done on videos on YouTube. It's not a huge problem. Or you can have a qualified gunsmith do this and they usually charge around $50-100 to do this job. When you draw the gun, you will instantly see that big white dot and it fills the slot perfectly. My gun shoots high if I have the whole dot visible in my sight picture. It shoots dead on up to 20 yards if I keep it at half-moon, with only half of the big dot visible on top. Now we're only talking about like 4-5 inches high at 10 yards if I have the whole dot showing, but still, just practice with it until you find how high or low it shoots. Fit's in every holster I have with no problems or snags at all. At night, DANG! It is clearly visible immediately. I'm very happy with it. This is my backup gun and wouldn't want to carry it without a good, quality night site. Hope this helps in your choice for a night site.

Awesome sight, great price!
Awesome! Fast acquisition, even for older eyes. The sight is bright (for Tritium) in low or no light. Sight picture recommendations comes with the sight. Fits my "pinned front sight" J frame perfectly.Easy to install with the right tools. Use the proper roll pin punches and roll pin starters. By mistake, I slightly deformed the old roll pin on re-installation. I think it was due to the difference in sizing form the J frame holes to the new sight.I suggest re-sizing the hole and sight to make fitting easier.I went ever so slightly larger to 1/16" and got some 420 stainless pins from Amazon. I had to grind the pins to the right length and file the bevel. Use a drill press, unless you are steady and have the pistol in a vise. Install the sight before you drill. Align the holes, clamp the sight to fit tightly, then pin (I didn't loctite, no movement after 50 rounds of +P). Obviously, take precautions to protect the finish of your J frame.I painted both sides of the pin with black truck bed liner sprayed into a cup, using a toothpick. As an option, you can paint the rear sight with white (or what eve color floats your boat) nail polish. Prep the surface (I used alcohol) and carefully remove the excess with mild acetone.Still cheaper than buying a single pin from S&W. Essential for pinned J frame
I purchased this sight for a newly purchased 649. Installation was not difficult; I found detailed directions through the Smith & Wesson Forum. Excellent sight that has a great picture in no/low light as well as daylight. Due to the size of the Big Dot, you need to ensure that you break your wrist over when shooting at ranges of 15+ yards; otherwise, the rounds will be high. I have carried a J frame as a backup for 20+ years and this is the best improvement possible. If you have a J frame with a pinned front sight, you need to purchase the Big Dot.

Works perfect for the SP-101!
I purchased the Meprolight front sight for my 2.25" Ruger SP101 and promptly returned it. Although the Mepro's tritium was definitely brighter, they required too much filing to fit. The Mepro was also taller than the stock sight and changed the sight alignment to where you couldn't use the top of the sight to line up, nor could you use the tritium dot. After returning the Mepro sights, I decided to give the XS Big Dot a try. First off, installation was much easier. The sights were much closer to the size of the sight channel and required only minimal removal of material. Drilling was also much easier, facilitated by a relief hole, which was pre-drilled into the bottom. The XS is definitely quite large, and taller, compared to the original, but it sits much better than the Mepro. It does change your sight alignment, but in my case proper sight picture was achieved by lining up the tritium dot with my rear sight trough. It does require some skill and patience to install, so see a gunsmith if you don't have either, but otherwise, I'm a happy camper with the XS Big Dot. I've read some criticism about the size of the dot covering your target but this particular XS Big Dot is for J-frames and SP101s both of which are snubbies, used as concealed carry weapons and generally requiring night sights. In a social use (self-defense) situation, it's about how fast you can acquire your front sight, and the big dot makes acquisition FAST!

... weeks of carrying my sp101 with the sight i like it. was easy to install with minimal fitting ...
so far after a few hundred rounds and a couple of weeks of carrying my sp101 with the sight i like it. was easy to install with minimal fitting for a solid installation. it is not a precision sight. it is a quickly acquired personal defense combat type sight. i find that inside of 15 yards with my 3" sp101 .357 mag that it is very easy to draw and hit an 8" plate about every time. easy to acquire sight that glows in the dark for around $50 that most people can install at home. what's not to like.
