Reclaiming Yourself from Binge Eating: A Step-by-Step Guide to Healing

Extremely Helpful Book
I devoured this book. It just made so much sense to me. It was easy to read and captivating. What I appreciated so much about it is that rather than having a singular methodology or plan like other books that I've read, it has several different ways of helping you to stop binge eating for good. The book has ideas taken from several different forms of psychological theory and conglomerated into one succinct book. I think it could help anyone get over their binge eating. There's something in it for everyone. There is a giant section on mindfulness and meditation and it teaches you how to be mindful and how to meditate. It then talks about concrete steps to take to just stop binge eating. There is also solid section on nutrition and understanding the physiology of hunger. Then, there are several chapters that are exercises to help you to deal with depression, sadness, anxiety, stress, etc. All the stuff that emotional eating entails. There is a section on dealing with your inner critic, and a lot about healing shame. There are also a series of question and answer exercises for you to write out and do in order to help you look deeper into yourself and to work with your feelings. The section on intuitive eating made a lot more sense to me than others that I've read because it has some good explanations about nutrition and the mechanisms of hunger. The end of the book is full of tools, tips and tricks for fighting binge eating including ways to deal with binge eating during PMS, EFT energy therapy, vitamins and supplements to take to help binge eating and cognitive behavioral exercises. There is just a lot in this book. I think that anyone who reads it will get something out of it. It is written in a perspective of "hey, this isn't working? that's okay, try this..." what works for some won't work for others, so given that, there are many different ways of stopping binge eating that are written about in this book.I highly recommend it!

Love to you!
This is a book about love. And compassion.Love for yourself. Love for the author. Compassion for all those struggling with eating disorders. And it goes waaaaay beyond just making you feel good. It is somehow simultaneously a soul-searching, thought-provoking book, as well as a quintessential resource densely peppered with step by step ideas, workbook and journaling opportunities. I read it cover to cover, but you can easily skip around to topics and activities that speak to you. The most refreshing aspect of this book is that somehow, amazingly, beautifully, there is not a single whiff of something pedantic or preachy. Instead, Fulvio writes in essence, an honest letter to, from, and about very real people: fully aware that we stumble, we fail, we pick ourselves up, and then maybe we do it all over again... And we can still love ourselves for that. Her actual approach to treating eating disorders is so downright doable too because you can do just a little bit at a time, or a whole lot if you're ready. And you strongly get the sense that neither way is the "right" way, it's just "my way." That is so empowering. I feel like this is a book that every American woman should read - eating disorder or not.Go love yourself!

Good & Compassionate Book
A while ago I had noticed that I had a problem with food. I didn't know exactly what it was. I let it linger for years, but was miserable. I finally decided to just Google what I was experiencing and learned about binging and disordered eating. At the time I didn't have health insurance so getting treatment wasn't really a reasonable option. Out of curiosity I decided to look up resources and came across this book. I checked the reviews across all platforms and they were all encouraging, so I bought it. I've been working through it slowly for the past few months. It is a great book if you have a bad relationship with food and are an emotional eater, or if you suspect you have an eating disorder. The book is compassionate and the author talks to the reader in a respectful way. I learned and realized a lot about my relationship with food. There's a lot of activities in the book to really decipher what is going on with you and your food. I really appreciate this book.

Absolutely amazing book for people with BED
After reading Intuitive Eating, I began reading this book in an effort to find out some more hands-on ways to really deal with the emotional aspect of my BED. I have been having a difficult time finding a therapist, and have about 5 years of experience of being in ED recovery so was looking for something specific - something that had detailed exercises and advice on being able to sort out what leads me to binging, and being able to deal with the shame and self-hatred that occurs around them and even just about myself in general. This book was EXACTLY what I was looking for, and I 100% cannot recommend it enough.IT IS NOT A DIET BOOK. It's filled with exercises that can be emotionally exhausting. You don't have to do all them, just like the author says. Do what you're comfortable with. Move at your own pace. Eating disorder recovery is not instantaneous, so do not expect to be able to finish this book and never binge again. You will relapse. It will happen. Just accept it and you will be on your first real step toward recovery. If you really put in the effort, however, this book will help you learn to nurture yourself so you don't let yourself fall into that pit of self-loathing and helplessness when you do binge.

I’m sure it’ll work for some, but not for me.
A very well written book, but unfortunately it didn’t help me with my particular problems. I’m sure it will work for some people, we’re all different.
