Experimenting with this device and I do wish that some advisory material had been included with tips and the like. This might save material and time wasted. Hopefully I will accomplish a some level of expertise eventually. Fingers crossed!

I ordered this for my and my sons train table that we decided to do together. When the unit finally arrived we were excited to try it out. Right out of the package the unit didn't work. I tried different batteries and watched several videos on proper use. Nothing. I contacted WWS about the unit. They had me check it with a new battery as I had already done. The person I spoke with via email said that if the unit was working correctly the clamp would make a small spark when rubbed against the mesh. Nothing. After several days I was told they would send me a new one and sent me an RMA. I promptly put the broken one in the mail and waited. And waited. And waited some more. I never received an email telling me the status of my replacement. All of my emails went unanswered. Finally in I believe sometime in February the new unit arrived. I checked it with the spark test and it worked. Today (12-15-21) I went to finally use it on the table and.....NOTHING!!! Changed battery and still no spark.This item is JUNK!!! The unit has been sitting in the storage container that I have all of the static grass in undisturbed since February.The ONLY thing I can say good about this item are the colors of the static grass. The grass itself is almost impossible to use itself. It comes out of the bag in clumps that will not break up. You literally have to tear it up by hand.Save your money and frustration and buy another brand.

I'm a rank beginner with this technique, so I liked that it was a kit with everything I needed to get started. I caught on quickly once I watched the manufacturer's online demos. (The demos can be viewed at the WWS website and on YouTube.)The cost was pricey for what appears to be something you can DIY, but I decided to take the plunge because the kit comes with a variety of grass heights (2 - 6 mm) AND the glues. The whole thing is to get the fibers to stand up vertically, so glues are important, because these don't bead up on the material, but rather get between fibers -- unlike some of the scenic glues I've tried in the past. That makes it easier to get additional layers of longer fibers to adhere so you can get different heights and color variations on top of the base layer. And, boy, they really adhere once dried, too! -- the glued-down grass remained soft to the touch and stayed put even after I vacuumed with my shop-vac!The fibers in the kit are very vibrant, but the selection of browns and green are well matched. It's definitely a summer look. Plus, each bag of fibers is actually a mix of different shades of green or brown.The applicator is approximately 9in. tall., easy to handle with a rubberized, non-slip covering on the handle portion, and really not too heavy even with the 9-volt battery inserted inside. The wire ground is well attached -- it didn't come loose even after I accidentally gave it a tug.This is really full-proof, and it looks amazing on a dirt-brown base with ground foams.About the only difficulty I had was that I failed to mask areas properly and I had to scrape off dried grass from hard to reach areas. Also, this applicator is intended for moderately sized layouts, so it's hard to maneuver in cramped areas. However, the company does make a "mini" to help you grass tight areas (e.g., between buildings).

It is ideal for applying grass to the scenery on my model railway, gives a great effect. I’m very pleased with this product.
