A happy discovery of Mucha's life.
This is a beautiful hard cover book. I wasn't familiar with the details of Alfons Mucha's life, he had a fascinating life. I knew of his life in Paris & his work was so well received in France, he influenced advertising, from chocolate powder to bicycles & galleries openings as early as 1926 . A great, affordable gift to any art lover.

Arrived Damaged
Was disappointed that the book arrived a bit damaged on the cover but other than that it was fine.

Mucha is probably my favorite artist and this book is beautiful.
I'm really happy about this purchase. I have a bit of an Art Book Collection and I'm thrilled to have this new addition. The images are crisp, the book is well-formatted and... well, that's all there is to it. I have nothing bad to say and I'd be surprised if anyone did.

Most recent book on Mucha with many problems
I have 5 popular books about Mucha (still trying to find a single perfect one for me - to cover most completely the two most prized contributions - posters/panels and Slav Epoch). This is the most recent book in the collection and despite good reviews, I find this book least useful. The book has four problems: (i) very minimalistic writing – you are not learning as much about Mucha and his art from this book – most of the others books are better (ii) not enough "final product" illustrations - for a number of Mucha’s famous creations, the book shows “secondary sources” – old photos, drafts, designs etc, but doesn’t show the final product (!) The most unfortunate case is Slav Epic – there are studies, designs, photos, but not a single illustration of the final paintings, a shame for a book on Mucha. Same is about Fouquet store, St Vitus window, and others. Having drafts is interesting, but drafts without final product make little sense. Also the book showing drafts rather randomly, if you want to see drafts, get Belvedere exhibition book by Agnes Husslein-Arco – it has many drafts AND final products (iii) chancy coverage – important work on Obecni Dum is missed completely, many panels are missing (flowers, times of the day, etc.) (iv) design and printing has several problems – while the paper inside is very good and overall printing quality (printed in Italy) is good, colors on most panels are too dark, a number of pictures are too small with a lot of unused white space left, the cover is made of poor quality porous paper and the book has no dust jacket – these are bad choices, the cover gets dirty quickly and there is no way to protect the book in a usual way by covering dust jacket in mylar. With that, it is not the best book to have in any sense – it is not good as the single introductory book on Mucha due to minimalistic writing and missing key projects (Sara Mucha's or the first book of Sato are better), but also a not good book to see details of you a real fan drafts (Husslein-Arco is much better). Yet, it is new and cheap, so if you want to have any book on Mucha, this will do.
