This shaofu 5-Tier Industrial Style Bookshelf and Bookcase is being used in a combo bedroom/personal office space, for books and display of stones, crystals and other items. The area is not highly lit, which is probably a good thing, because the unit now has a few little dings here and there, some of which it had out of the box; others were sustained while hammering the metal pieces into each other, a needed step not listed in the assembly instructions.The packaging was abominable, with the most horrendous styrofoam ever produced (thin, broken, shedding a million tiny styrofoam balls throughout the universe), which required multiple vacuummings during and after assembly. If I'd known just how difficult the assembly would be, I don't know if I would've bothered, but I am fairly pleased with the end result, given the low cost of the unit. Just be prepared to work, and be prepared to devote a few hours to this project, if not the better part of a day. With 2 people on it, it would probably go more swiftly. Watch where the holes for the cross-beam support are located on the rails, or you may end up taking everything apart and starting over again.Furthermore, I do believe the wood tone pictured is considerably lighter than what I got, though as I say, it does actually look good now that it's been assembled, wiped down and vacuumed a few times.The unit is sturdy, and with some weighty books on the bottom 2 shelves, I did not need to attach the wall screws, which is a good thing, because I got the top shelf on backwards (easy enough to correct, which I'll probably do eventually, next time I move).I think that pretty much covers it. If you do purchase one of these, have courage and keep at it, and you'll get there eventually. If you want an easy plug & play bookshelf, try something else.

I did a lot of research to find an affordable bookshelf for the livingroom that could display family pictures and treasures. I never bought furniture online before and was a little nervous about assembling this myself, so when I received this I laid out all the pieces, which were clearly marked and counted all the screws and things to make sure I had everything. My only comment is make sure you use the correct shelf in the correct direction, as the X in the back connects to the shelves and the holes are only on certain shelves. After taking it apart (because I had one backwards) and connecting the X, I was very happy with how sturdy this unit is, probably wouldn't hold a ton of weight, but it has solid wood shelves and doesn't look cheap. Nice addition to our livingroom.

I bought this for my craft room to hold all of my boxed items. I loved it so much that I immediately ordered another! Easy to assemble, sturdy, and nice looking. It was the best-priced item, that I found.

For the price, this was the best 5 shelf in this style I could find. And it's actually 6 if you include the top. While I wish it was real wood, the MDF shelves are decently wrapped in a veneer. Not perfect but no glaring delamination either. Could always be replaced with real wood down the line. The steel supports are decently powder coated, and again while I wish they were little stouter, they do the job. Assembly was easy, its just turning bolts.

Got two one was great but the second had some marks on it. Seams sturdy enough. Have had some pretty heavy books on it and no bending like you get with some wooden shelves.

I live in a loft, and I was looking for a bookshelf that was both tall, "open" (without a back panel), and sturdy. This fits the bill very well. Each shelf is essentially a clone of the other, so assembly was extremely easy. I was able to put this together while distracting myself with a movie.You MIGHT need two people to raise it to a standing position, however. Especially if you're short like me (5'3"). Otherwise, it's a solid piece of work and good value.

It looks nice and was cheap. Slight bow in the shelf if you pack it full of books.
