But finally it's an excellent book of study
However I found the first Golpe excercise (Track 15 ) a bit confused. I can hear the beat where it's not indicated on the sheet/tabulature. But finally it's an excellent book of study.

A Disapointment
I ordered this at the request of my daughter's instructor --- after reviewing it he said it was a complete waste of money and asked us to order a different title _Mel Bay Play Solo Flamenco Guitar_ instead.

Very casebook to follow. I started playing guitar a year ago, and really wanted to play flamenco.

The Best I've Seen
I've been playing and teaching flamenco guitar for more than a decade. This is by far the best book on flamenco I've come across. It is clear and methodical. It covers all of the characteristic parts of flamenco: rasgueado, tremolo, alzapua, etc. It also does a great job of helping students understand flamenco. It goes into depth about how flamenco is put together and its complicated rhythm. It relates rhythm to the "flamenco clock" which helps. I also recommend the author's flamenco metronome, available at his website. There are many books out there that will teach you to play a flamenco piece from start to finish. This book does not take this approach. Instead it teaches you to think like a flamenco. Flamenco guitarists don't play a piece start to finish like a classical guitarist does, they put sections together in a very different way. This book does a great job of approaching flamenco guitar like real flamenco players do.Few "method" books are actually method books. There is no method in them. Not so with this one. It systematically covers everything you need to know, in great depth. I also recommend his volume 2 and his book on "Gypsy Guitar" which covers the rhumba style of flamenco (Which is what most people think FLamenco is, i.e. Gypsy Kings, Ottmar Liebert) His is the only good book I've seen that is devoted to this style.

The best introduction to flamenco technique I have found
This is the best flamenco technique introduction book I have found. This and volume 2 go through all right hand techniques of flamenco (minus rumba, different book) and go through the different song types, starting with bulerias. The accompanying dvd also shows all techniques very well, at slow and normal speed. As well all exercises are on the DVD for you to watch and listen, if you can't read music (tabs and notes are displayed) or if you want to hear it to make sure you are playing well. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to learn flamenco. Of course if you have never played guitar, flamenco is probably not the style to start with and this is not an introduction to guitar but an introduction to flamenco. In addition, it's dirt sheep considering you would spend hours and months with a teacher to learn what's in here.High-five for this amazing serie.
