If you've ever wanted one of those stools they have at your local library, get this!
This thing has come in so handy around the house! Just push it to where you need and when you step on it, it sets itself in place. And it's steel, so you don't have to worry about it breaking.I've always wanted one of those librarian step stools, and now I have one of my own. I have a slight concern about the durability of the plastic top, but as for the step stool itself, this may be a buy it for life product.

Just like one we've had for 20 years
Some of the bad reviews must not be for this product. The one we received is metal and assembly is literally a snap. It comes in two pieces. Simply remove the protective sleeves from the prongs on the top piece, align the prongs with the holes in the bottom piece and push down. I had to put a bit of weight on the top piece while spreading the supports a bit to line the prongs up with the holes, but it wasn't hard. A quick push with the palm of my hand is all that was needed to snap them into place. This is the same quality as a roll-around stool we have had for over 20 years. The plastic top on the other one is cracked and falling apart so it is not as secure to stand on as it once was. We are very glad to have this replacement.

Sturdy
Bought this stool a couple of years ago and it has remained sturdy and bears the weight of someone heavy standing on it with no problem.

Tried and true
I’ve had one of these for 40 years. Though it’s garnered more than a few scrapes, dings, and paint dribbles, it remains fully functional and used routinely to reach items on high shelves or change bulbs in ceiling fixtures. The shiny new one is almost identical and will be used upstairs mainly in large closet/dressing room. Assembled easily in a minute without tools; rolls easily and smoothly to position, yet very steady for standing or sitting on non-slip top. Item cost and shipping seemed high but offset by overall quality and unique functionality.

My favorite stool in the house
USE: I have a stool or step ladder on every floor of the house, and this one lives in the kitchen and gets the most use. It's easy to wheel into place with my foot when my hands are full of dishes or whatever else. Because it's so easy to use, I'm using my middle and top cabinets far more than I did when I was using other stools or ladders that I'd have to drag out and set up each time.QUALITY: I don't weigh much (100 lbs), but it feels like it would be sturdy for a bigger person. This is a lot like the stools we had in the library as kids. The only difference is this feels a little lighter-weight (or maybe that's just because I'm bigger now), but it feels like it'll last for years.DIFFICULTY: My only difficulty with this was that it took a lot of force to click the pieces into place when assembling it. I stood on it and bounced my weight on it, but that wasn't enough so I had to have one of my kids do it for me.OVERALL: I hesitated to buy this because I have several other stools and step ladders I already like (eg, a nice step ladder with a bar to hold onto if doing things up high like installing curtains), but this one is BY FAR the best for frequent use and quick, easy access in the kitchen and I'm so glad I bought this.

For Our Condo Building
We are redecorating the common areas of our building. As a part of the work on the lobby, we replaced the nest of mailboxes, which must comply with current USPS specifications. A few of our vertically-challenged owners were concerned that their boxes on the top tier of the new nest were so high that they could not see into them.We needed a step-up that would be easy to move, bot impede traffic flow in the lobby, and be very stable.A library step stool came to mind immediately. It arrived promptly, and was inexpensive, was assembled in a minute or two, rolls along the floor easily, and locks into place as soon a it is strepped on. Perfect.

Just like the one Mom had!
After years of settling for plastic stools and bulky stepladders, I finally bit the bullet and ordered a one-and-only-original Kik Step. It's the same durable, easy-rolling Kik Step that my mother had many years ago, and it's already made my life easier... except for putting it together. I'm a petite 60+ woman with little strength left in my hands, and it was impossible for me to snap on the top level of the stool by hand. I finally called on "Big Wally" (our 3-lb mallet) for assistance, and after covering the top platform with a towel, I managed to whomp the pegs into place. All's well that ends well, but at this price point, it should come fully assembled.
