When you’re dealing with the most famous fighter of them all things have to be just right. The Wingleader Spitfire captures the ‘lines’ of the early Spitfires to a tee!! This printed kit requires careful cutting out and reasonable skill to assemble accurately but the end result is more than worth it. Even the wing root fairings are simulated and that characteristic ‘elliptical’ wing just flows into the fuselage. The kit contains a superb scale canopy, undercarriage and rubber motor, so all you need to complete her is glue and covering dope. Even the tissue is in the box! With that accurate external shape she just cries out to be carefully painted in an authentic scheme. With Spitfires, there’s hundreds to choose from and yours could be truly unique! Although only 470mm’s in span, the Wingleader Spitfire still gives you a great flight each time and you’ll want to keep her constantly in the air!! The kit includes: Printed Balsa Wood Panels, stripwood, plan and instructions, Plastic propeller & Rubber motor, wheels, wire, moulded canopy & spinner Adhesives and paints etc are not included in the kit and will need to be purchased separately. A rubber powered model. Wingspan 467mm, 18.4".

West Wings Spitfire
The West Wings Spitfire looks like a nice airplane, however on closer inspection it doesn't quite measure up to that status . Firstly it is not laser cut but printed on the wood to be cut out by the builder . This is reminiscent of the old Comet kits ( not bad as I have built a few in my lifetime ) but not for almost $50.00 . It also is only an 18 inch span model, actually Quite small for the price asking . If you have the skills to assemble this kit I would recommend that you download some of the many free plans and build from there . You can buy a lot of balsa and tissue and glue ( not to mention a motor ) for $50.00 . If this is not your thing then I would recommend you buy the Guillows one . The smaller one is less money and die cut ( they are converting to laser on most of there line ) and the lager ( 27 1/2 inch span ) version is only about $15.00 more and it is laser cut . I have built many model airplanes in my lifetime and I always thought that the Guillows ones where first rate . I'm also not suggesting that the West wings one is inferior, it just is over priced for what it is .

The British are Coming!
The balsa is very high quality which facilitates cutting each piece/part out with an Exacto knife and a razor blade. Be aware that this is not an easy kit for a beginner. Although the instructions are very clear and detailed, there are several sequences that will challenge even the experienced builder. The price is high, it's made in England so the cost of shipping is reflected. I like all the West Wings kits because the quality of the materials is very high. Tissue supplied is Esaki, from Japan, it is the best tissue and is about $1.25 a sheet. Great kit, a challenge but not for the beginner.
