The D4 product is defective and support doesn’t seem to have a working solution for it.
I’ve been through three Neato D4s in less than a month and a half. Before you ask, no, my floors not made of lava causing them to melt. The same issue keeps happening where the robot goes offline after about 4 days or so. I then attempt to reconnect it to the WiFi network and it fails to either go into discovery mode for WiFi networks after about 20 seconds (yes, I timed it), or it ends up going dead with a red battery icon (this happened on the first D4 we purchased initially). So I’ve called support a few times and they attempted to have me fix it by doing everything except standing on one leg whistling Zippidy Doo Dah while spinning around counter clockwise on the night of a full moon.

I am so beyond happy!
I never write reviews! However, I researched robot vacuums for over a month and it was a hard decision because the reviews seemed to all be mediocre to bad. I am enjoying my Neato robot vacuum so much!!!! I love coming home to clean floors and the vacuum lines in the carpet! The app is great and while I’m at work it sends me updates when he’s done cleaning and a map of where he’s cleaned. He’s such a smart little bot! Yes, the dust bin could be larger but I have him clean 3x a week or more so now the dust bin doesn’t get full. He has no trouble climbing onto rugs or high front door mats. He’s not the quietest on turbo but I’d rather know he’s powerful! I love this tool! I have 2 dogs so it’s nice to have him suck up the dog hair while I’m at work! I hope this helps!

Hard setup, clumsy, loud, dirt bin hard to clean
I'm a robot guy. I've had robots since the original Roomba Red. I've had many brands since then that I've been very pleased with including Shark, Ecovacs, and of course Roomba. This one is a little different.I was interested in it because it seemed to have some smarter smarts when it comes to mapping the room and setting "no go" zones. Not only does that not function the way I hoped it would, it's problematic, and other attributes of how it works also annoy me. It's rare that I really just don't connect with a product, so I'll try to be as direct and honest as I can.Unpacking: No issues, easy unpacking.Setup: I had no issues getting the robot connected to the app. It seemed to arrive mostly charged. The app told me that it had a firmware update for the robot, but no matter what I did it would not initiate. I finally gave up and went to bed. The next day I tried again and found that the robot had somehow emptied its battery. I let it charge for several hours and tried again. This time the software update ran. This was not the kind of new product experience I was expecting out of a new robot and I've never had anything like this with previous vacuum robots.First use: The first run it wants to map your house. I was in! My house is a constantly changing place with chairs moving, boxes coming from Amazon and then gone, coffee table moving some, luggage moving, so I tried to be as conservative as possible and move things up/out that could have the potential to be gone. During the discovery process it totally missed one room. I live in a rather small loft apartment so most robots clean the whole place and still have battery life left. I could not find a way to "go discover this area" by pointing to a spot on the map and I've not yet gotten around to wiping the work it did and start over.Use: Of all of the experience, this is the part the counts the most because you do it every time forever, and this is where I'm least pleased with this robot compared to any of the others. The majority of my flooring is wood. It's polished, smooth, classic nailed. Every once in a while the robot bucks up! It's rear hops up in the air like it's been stung by a bee. The only thing I can guess is that it occasionally thinks it's encountering a stairway and trying not to drop off. That's my best guess. It bangs into things. Hard. Harder than any of my other robots. This is especially true if something has moved slightly. The dirt bin is a fraction of the size of dirt bins of my other robots and requires more frequent emptying, and the emptying experience is inferior too-- the filter has no mesh over it so the lint gets its way right down in between every fold of the filter. You will get dirty emptying it if you properly clean the filter. You have to actually remove the filter for the bin to empty. It's that poorly thought out.I just can't recommend this robot given the other values and great performance out there, especially for the odd behavior, difficult setup and remediation on training, and sub-par experience day to day emptying and cleaning. So sorry, it's not me, it's you.

Worthy of 5 stars; here’s why.
This is a review of the Neato Robotics D6 Connected Laser Guided Robot Vacuum. The Setup:Getting a robot vacuum can be very exciting and you’ll want to get out the quick start guide and get it up and running quickly. Please take a moment to read through the quick start guide and visit neatorobotics.com website to see their how-to-videos; they are really informative and helpful. After leaving the D6 plugged into the charging station overnight, I was excited to get started with it. However, I didn’t heed the above advice and dived right in with just a cursory examination of the quick start guide (mistake). This led to me failing the pairing process and delaying the setup. I had to reset the pairing process multiple times. I was too impatient wondering why it wouldn’t connect to my wireless network. Finally, I read through everything clearly and looked at the how-to-videos online and just waited patiently as it finally connected to my wireless network. Once the pairing was done everything worked perfectly and it was ready to go. Features:The laser and bumper guided allows for squaring to walls, giving a less random and more purposeful vacuuming path. It has a very accurate tracking system so that it knows where it’s been and where its base is at all times. The Neato robotic vacuum has amazing problem-solving logic - I repeatedly found myself thinking it was stuck between two chair legs or some other obstacle and couldn’t get itself unstuck, but as I watched it work itself free, I saw how many different methods it used. It has a lot of different ways it can get unstuck and its logic in doing this is fantastic. If you see your D6 struggling, just wait, if it can’t get free it will send you a notification on your smart phone with a map of your floor plan where it is stuck. When you free it, simply place it a maximum of 2’ from its stuck location and press the resume button to let it continue working. The built in memory that can hold up to 3 different floor plans. The Docking/Charging station - is another one of its great features. My floor plan is nearly 1200 s/ft. and the D6 on a single charge can get about ¾ of way through the floor plan. When its battery is nearly depleted it stops vacuuming and returns to the charging dock, recharges, then returns to the spot it left and continues vacuuming. This was a must to limit the need of scheduled human interaction. The Dust bin - because of its small size my initial take was wondering how convenient it is if I have to frequently empty the D6 dust bin. When I did the first run, I didn’t empty it and when it was done I found the dust had backed up into the brush and was very dense and thick. I had to run it multiple times on the floor until it stopped having dense amounts of debris in the bin. It’s then that I realized I don’t vacuum the floor but once a month. But putting the D6 on a schedule of twice a week it really never fills up the bin I just have to empty it between runs. Our floor has never been cleaner. It also has a WiFi and a corresponding smart phone app that keeps you in communication with your D6 even, if you’re no longer on the same WiFi network.Only one time did the D6 drop off of WiFi, even though this happened it still finished cleaning and then returned to its dock to charge. To get it back on WiFi I just turned it off then back on (funny how that is the fix for almost all tech) and it connected back onto the network automatically. The smart app is not just a start and stop the vacuum app, it has a lot of its own features like:• Cleaning options: whole house cleaning, spot cleaning• Cleaning profiles: Eco (Quieter, longer cleaning run) and Turbo (Super powered cleaning with maximum pickup)• Navigation mode: Extra Care (Gentle navigation)• You can set your D6 to clean on a schedule; time, day and repetition.• Can create a “My Floor Plan” that sets your D6 exploring throughout your home all the time making a map of it as it cleans. Once it’s done, it will allow you to create “No Go” lines that will keep the vacuum from going into areas where you don’t want it.Whole house cleaning is exactly what it sounds, the D6 will travel everywhere it can as long as its path isn’t impeded (closed doors or other obstructions) cleaning back and forth and around objects in the room until it has gone over every surface it has found.Spot cleaning is when you have a specific area of either 4’ x 6’ or 13’ by 13’ (option) you place the D6 in the middle of the long side facing the center of the cleaning spot then start it. It turns right and does a boundary cleaning of a 4’ x 6’ or 13’ x 13’ virtual area and then cleans the interior using a back and forth straight-line pattern.I use the Eco mode when I’ve been doing regular cleanings and I’m doing them at night; in this mode the D6 is so quite that you can be in the same room while its working and not really notice. I used Turbo mode when I’ve run it during the day and want deeper, quicker cleaning. The navigation mode Extra Care is very important if like me, you have delicate furniture like a piano or small speaker stands (that could be easily tipped over). Much of its navigation around objects is done with the front bump sensor on the front of the D6.With the app I scheduled my D6 to vacuum twice a week on Wed and Sat at 10pm in Eco mode. I didn’t schedule this until I knew the D6 could run that program repeatedly while I was monitoring it.In creating a floor plan I made several mistakes the first was that after doing a cleaning a map is generated and I mistakenly thought that I could just select that map and make it my floor plan and then from there add the no-go lines to that floor plan. But actually, to do this, you have to follow the “My Floor Plan” initial setup before you can do any no-go lines. The second mistake was that I had moved all of the small furniture out of the room like chairs and pet toys. What I didn’t realize was that after the Floor plan was done and I moved the small furniture back into the room it errored out whenever it started with the no-go line floor plan. Thus, I had to re-do the whole floor plan with furniture in place. It only cares if more objects suddenly appear on the floor plan not if they are gone. So, if you do want a really thorough cleaning job you can move the chairs and larger pet toys out of the room and still have the no-go lines floor plan work.No-Go Lines: The D6 comes with a magnetic strip physical “No-Go” line that you can place on the floor and the D6 will vacuum up to it but not cross it. But the better “No-Go” feature is that once your floor plan is created you can draw your own “No-Go” lines right on your floor plan and if you use the app or a schedule a cleaning it will use those “No-Go” lines as though you dropped the physical strip down. I used this feature on one of our desks, it was just low enough to allow the D6 vacuum under it before it got stuck. So, I drew a “No-Go” box around the desk and the D6 vacuum just went right around it and didn’t try to vacuum under it.Because you can easily add and remove “No-Go” lines, you can use them to temporarily block off areas of your floor plan that don’t need regular cleaning.Works with Alexa: it has built in Alexa support with their supported Alexa skill that you can enable. But for best performance and to allow floor plans and “No-Go” lines to work you will need to initiate the D6 from either the Neato app or the scheduled job.Performance:One of the final tests was to vacuum the floor with my standup vacuum after the robot finished to see if it really was completely cleaning. When I was done the standup vacuum had no dirt in the dust bin.Support:I did have an odd issue with the vacuum I had scheduled it for an 11pm night run. I got a notification that I didn’t read until 1:45am that it was in trouble. I found it with the battery and “I” icon flashing red. I thought it had run out of battery and didn’t return to the dock to charge. I started a chat session with Neato support and went over the problem she said that might have been stuck and ran out of battery power prior to it getting free. I re-ran the cleaning cycle and but with the suspected object it got stuck on moved out of the way. It ran with no issues and returned to the base to charge and then back out to finish cleaning. The support agent followed up multiple times to make sure that it was working as expected. Price and Value:I recognize that the hefty price is really high for a vacuum cleaner but to be honest with you, I hate vacuuming as you can tell since I only do it once a month. However, just the idea of having my carpets and bare floors cleaned automatically twice a week is amazing and liberating and it’s once again comfortable doing floor exercising without doing them in month old dog hair (I know, it’s gross.) For me that price tag is completely worth it.My Final Take:Neato’s D6 robot vacuum will be one of the most amazing purchases you’ll ever make. It is clear to me that Neato’s R and D has created and tested it thoroughly for every possible vacuuming issue that the D6 could face. After just simply picking up the small items like pet toys the D6 robot vacuum does its job without failure moving around and under chairs and coaches. The “No-Go” feature allows you to make the D6 robot vacuum as close to autonomous as possible—your only job is to empty the dust bin after every cleaning and occasionally clean the roller of pet hair and carpet fibers. Also, because it cleans bare floors, I don’t need to sweep the kitchen or bathrooms anymore. I only need to make sure the floors aren’t wet when the D6 robot vacuum starts cleaning. So I never have to vacuum or sweep the floors ever again! I (obviously) love it and give it a huge thumb’s up.

Great Vac - GARBAGE WIFI CONNECTIVITY
UPDATE- Second Robot, same fault as first, dealing with Neato Support is like having a brain Aneurysm on Acid, they don't listen/read your emails, When they do reply they get you to try the same thing over and over, send you an app to test an entirely different issue, then when they finally give in and issue an RMA, they never actually send it.. If I could give Neato minus stars I would.. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!! Luckily Amazon came thru and extended my return window so I could get a refund, so boxed this POS up, sent it back and am glad to get rid of it, the Eufy we had prior was a million times more reliable... Should have stuck with them for our second robot... NEATO SUCK... Amazon you ROCK....This is the second unit we have had fail on us in 2 months, both have the had the same issue, cannot connect to the local Wifi of the robot (not our household WiFi)... both were fine initially, then after about 2 weeks, neither would connect, and trying to get support from Neato is a Joke, 4 Days, zero response and the phone lines are offline due to COVID, as apparently they haven't worked out people can work from home yet...Great Clean, Everything else is garbage, avoid like the plague...

Unreliable
This is a great robot vacuum, when it works. It's got a massive dustbin and navigation is solid. The schedule works well, although the options are limited and starts the robot exactly one hour earlier than the set time.Sometimes it loses it's connection to the app and then the nightmare begins. It only has one button on it and there is no display so if you can't see it in the app there is no way to know what's going on. I have found the only way to recover from this point is to to a full reset and start again. I have had to do this 4 times since I got it 2 months ago. Setting it up involves sitting next to it on the floor, repeatedly pushing it's buttons and waiting for it to make stupid noises for around half an hour, until it finally connects on the 11th attempt. I have only been able to do it with a Google Pixel 2. Other phones just can't see it's WiFi signal. I have contacted support a few times and all they can do is read you their own website, as if I hadn't looked there first. Software updates are urgently required and there is no sign that Neato knows or cares about this. I would definitely not recommend this product to anyone who knows my phone number or where I live.

I only have it for few week, but overall I am happy with it. I think it has a good suction, and a good battery life. The fact that it has the floor mapping capability it helps with shorten the time needed to clean the house, so it doesn't get overused, and hopefully will be more durable. Also, because of that and the long battery, it can cover a fairly large floor in one pass, so I think is good enough for larger houses. Even for large houses, since when it is running out of battery it can go, recharge and resume cleaning from where it left, I think is good. Having multiple plan maps helps a lot with multistory houses. On an not so positive note, the software might get better, as it seems that from time to time it gets confused and spend an excessive amount of time trying to decide what to do. Also, quite frequently it gets stuck between chairs legs.Looking at the D7 with the zones feature, it might be better to get that one, if found on sale. Usually some areas, like kitchen, I think needs cleaning more often then the rest of the floor. And yes, as someone else noticed, cleaning the dust bin is really messy.

A great cleaning robot.
Very pleased with the d4 which is replacing my older d80. Suction power is great and the robot seems to navigate around the basement easily. It goes around my poker table and chairs very well, around my couch and table. It completely covered my basement in about 40 min (600 sqft) which consists of office, bathroom, bar (hardwood) and sitting area. Did not get stuck on anything and found it’s way back home without any issue. The setup was easy and it connected immediately to wifi. The app was simple to use and it mapped the basement in one go.Overall very pleased.Edit: The D4 also has the same suction power as the D6 and D7. It does not have multi floor mapping so it will remap (or have to remap) if it is moved around.

Underwhelmed.
I was really excited for this but was left rather disappointed in its performance. I cleared everything from my floor to allow a good initial clean and for the unit to properly map my floor plan. It missed a 3 inch strip along my kitchen wall (but didn't on the other side). It struggled when it was going over my heat vent covers (standard size and shape). It also got stuck under my couch as the lidar top-cap kept rubbing. It seems there is no sensor in the top so if it gets underneath something snug, it turns around and it's stuck! Having to recuse it multiple times affected the mapping process too. It seemed to not get around objects as well as I had hoped. My house has many corners and angled walls. Perhaps this proves difficult for navigation.Pros: good sized dust bin, long run time, good carpet cleaning.
