JUST GET ONE ALREADY!
I was like you. "Why do I need this when I'm so good at taking links apart with regular pliers" you say. There's a reason you're looking at these. You don't like the derailleur spring throwing half your quick link out onto the driveway. So you just take the back wheel off.Just stop it. Hit BUY NOW.It's one of those things you get and say "Man, why did I wait all this time and bend that link with my awesome crooked plier technique before FINALLY getting one of these! I love this thing!!!"By the way, it works to snap the thing into position when you're putting the quicklink BACK on too. It's great. YOU'RE great! You deserve one of these. Your drivetrain will love you for it.

Works well, once the surface finish is cleaned up
Being tired of the needle-nose plier dance when replacing a quick-link, I ordered these $9 chain link pliers. When they arrived, one of the plier tips didn't fit through either the narrow or wide chain links. Closer inspection showed the tips to be slightly misaligned. The poorly behaving tip also had a thicker coat of paint, enough to add almost 0.5 mm to the tip thickness.30 seconds with a file, a slight bend with that pair of needle-nose pliers to correct alignment, and they work as expected. For $9, I'm ok with the necessary cleanup.

Not ready out of the box
As others have experienced, these pliers would not reconnect my quick link (SRAM XX1 chain) until I filed down the paint/metal on them so they could "fit" far enough up in between the links to properly "push out" and snap quick link into place. They removed the link just fine without modification, but that's only half the battle.Otherwise appears to be a good-quality tool, but if I were going it again, I'd spend $8 more for the Park tool and show them a little love since I'm watching all their excellent instructional videos (and you probably are too). Sorry, but not really a bargain when you have to modify it yourself to get it to work as advertised.

Doesn't fit 9-speed chain without modifications
I agree with what others have said that it doesn't fit the 9-speed chain. After I modded it fits and works fine. Since this is such a simple problem to fix, the mfr should implement the change. The primary problem is that it does not open wide enough, to fit over the two link rollers) because the slot that the pin runs in is not long enough and this limits how wide the pliers opens. To fix you need either to:- Elongate the slot ... hard to do. I took apart the tool and tried to elongate with a drill in a drill press and it did help but did not fully solve the problem. A proper bit probably would have worked.- Remove some material from the tool tips' inside. This is easier to do and requires a bit of filingAlso note that the instructions fail to point out that you need to pinch the link (flat side to flat side) as squeezing the pliers in order to release the link.

more china junk
Like another reviewer mentioned he had to file the tool tips to get them between chain links. I had to do the same. The paint is much too think and even without the paint the steel tips need to be filed down. I used a Dremel to do the job. Also the jaws need to open about another millimeter to allow you to squeeze them effectively into the chain links. I would also make the handles a bit longer to allow for better leverage. I suggest the Park Tool brand instead. I have other Park tools that work very well and it's my fault in going cheap and that's what I got.

Very decent quality for such a low price
I just replaced my first bike chain using this tool. The wear indicator worked as expected, not much to say about it. The pliers were great, since this was my first time, it took a few tries to get the job done as I wasn't sure how much pressure to apply. Watched a few videos online and realized I didn't need to be afraid of applying power. Both undoing the master link from the old chain and snapping together the new master link on the new chain worked with no issues.

Heh.......
Ok the down and dirty. Easy to use and get the links disconnected but to get the links locked back is the issue. The pliers do not spread open far enough to close the link. So effectively they are 50% effective. Feel good to the hands, seems well made and will open the links then you need to either have the grip of Mighty Joe Young to set the link to locked status again. That being said.....you have to judge the purchase. I bought another pair that look almost identical that does open and close the links. So there you go......

Good and Cheap Master Link Pliers
Considering how often I'll use them these master link pliers will do just fine. I've used needle nose pliers, but for less than $10 these will work way better and I can avoid the hassle. Are they as good as Park Tool, highly doubtful, but Park Tool already has a lot of my money on many other tools. These are plenty good for my usage.
