Prefer over Dremel
The Milwaukee cordless version make some tasks a lot more convenient. I've had no problem with battery charge length. All the Dremel attachments including the flex pen fit on the Milwaukee. I think Milwaukee makes good tools. I was disappointed in the last Dremel tool as the speed control failed.

Outstanding rotary tool!
Milwaukee fanboi here, and heavily invested in their M18 platform. This is my first tool that is from their M12 platform, and it doesn't disappoint. I purchased the tool-only version of the rotary tool, and I got a package of 2 M12 batteries from Amazon as well. Honestly with the tool and 2 batteries, I only paid slightly higher than I would have paid for the tool-only at my local box store. Since I have a good number of M18 tools, I have the M18 chargers that charge both the M18 and M12 batteries. If this is your first Milwaukee tool, you'll need an M12 battery AND a charger with this tool. The tool did come with a small wrench, so not a completely tool-free chuck, and a few cutting discs, which isn't clear in the product description to my recollection. Nevertheless, I did also purchase a set of Dremel cutting, sanding, and polishing attachments I could also use with the Milwaukee. Attaching and removing the bits is very easy. Simply press the lock button, and use the small wrench to loosen or tighten the chuck to secure or remove the disc holder. Changing discs is similarly easy, as you just unscrew the flathead screw holding the disc to the holder and change it out. The tool is powerful, and is speed-adjustable. The best part though, is that it has an auto-shutoff feature if the motor gets to bogged down or heated. It'll work again in a few seconds, but it's just the tool's way of protecting the longevity of the motor. Besides, you don't want to crank down hard on your material. Just apply a light to medium steady pressure, and let the tool do the work. Great purchase, and I highly recommend it and other Miulwaukee

Does the job, could be better.
I needed a rotary tool while traveling and figured I'd try the m12 version since I have plenty of m12 bits. However, I also own a Proxxon (which was at home) and have had a few dremels and even HF units over time. I'd rank the bearing performance of the milwuakee as on par with the average dremel. I was using cutoff wheels on aluminum and didn't break any, which is a good sign of a reasonable bearing. The tool itself is a little fat, not too bad. Noise levels are ok, it vibrates a bit in the hand indicating that the assembly could be balanced a bit better. Again, on par with the average Dremel unit. Perfect for the odd rotary job now and then and want to use a minimum amount of space in your power tool kit. Get a proxxon if you need to use it daily.

Great rotary tool
I upgraded to this tool when my reliable Dremel gave up the ghost after twenty years. I opted for the Milwaukee based on reviews and the modular battery system, and I am happy I did. It does a great job, the variable speed selector is a godsend, and all in all, it feels tough and reliable. Be aware that you need to have the 12v battery, as well as a charger.

Was tied between this and a dremel. After doing research and watching videos I learned that this has more power than the dremel and best of all , I can use my Milwaukee m12 batteries with it. Run time is excellent and I use it weekly for little projects. If your on the fence , this is probably the best one you can buy

I do a bit of wood carving and have always used a Dremel corded rotary tool. It's often annoying to find a place to set up a bench, hang the dremel and use the flexible rotary shaft extension. The Milwaukee M12 tool eliminates all the set up time and annoying cables, I can carve just about anywhere on a whim, the cordless aspect and light weight makes it easy to manipulate. Adding a higher mAh M12 (red lithium XC) battery and this tool runs for long periods of time. Highly recommend!
