Great dive into mechanics for those who love cars and know nothing alike
Came on time, in good shape, and overall just a very good book. Super interesting despite my having no interest in cars.

Not as interesting in 2024 as it must have been a decade ago
This book was written just as Tesla began to make Model S cars. The future of innovative cars and EVs was not clear at all. At the time the book was written, the X Prize for cars must still have seemed somewhat relevant. From the perspective of 2024 it all looks like an amateurish dead end of wasted energy. This X Prize was not thought out and failed to have any real effect on anything. It didn't spark public interest, or any manufacturers to do anything new.The story is relatively well written, but there are a few too many characters for me to keep up with. The TOTAL LACK OF PHOTOGRAPHS doesn't help. The author even mentions taking pictures, but I think there are only one or two (the cover and one more). You're left to imagine what these cars looked like from the lengthy arcane descriptions. This kind of thing was better done in Caroline Kettlewell's "Electric Dreams".I think Fagone's time would have better spent preparing a book largely of team photos with just the highlights of each contestant's story. Ah, well.

Great book as I was in the XPrize and know ...
Great book as I was in the XPrize and know all of the people in the book. They were all interesting characters and the author got lots of information from them to make them even more interesting..
