Whiteside Machine 9800 Brass Set Up Gauge Blocks

First of i`m old and never really was able to shake ok the old imperial Feet and Inches so these are perfect for me. They really do save a lot of mucking around on the table saw and router table for depth and width . These are used a lot in America as they use inches and such. I suppose one day they will come in metric for the earopean type of guy. But these are acurate and do the job very well.

Arrived a lot earlier than expected and when measured with digital vernier callipers they are well within expected tolerances.I will be marking sizes on each one just to ensure I pick up the correct one. It would be better if this was engraved on them at manufacture but who know how expensive that would be.Excellent item.

The quality assurance is extremely lacking. Every piece is a different length and at least 1 is shorter than the listed 2.5 in. The ends are unfinished with cutting marks and a raised nib in the centre. There are scratches and other marks on many of the surfaces. The main issue with the aforementioned is that I cannot clean up the sides without ruining the dimensions. the maker should clean these up. A smart maker would make them slightly larger, then file down to size and apply a decent finish or polish. The entire point for choosing brass is the beautiful look and it's ruined when the work is shoddy.They are accurate enough for woodworking but the quality leaves much to be desired.

The dimensions are within a couple thousanths, sometimes up to 0.008", on the pair of these that I bought. Some were under dimension a little, so if you are a machinist or metal worker just make your own, obviously . Although, after removing the tiny burs on the end of the blocks and ensuring they were flat all around, they proved to be perfect for setting table saw blade heights, router table depth and fence positions, or marking precise dimensions.Personally, I find it much more useful to have two sets of these.

They arrived on time and was securely packaged. The gauges could use a stamp or marking of some kind to show the size
