Night and day, compared with cheap varieties.
I'm super impressed with these 3M sanding discs. You receive 50 in the box.Like most of us, I've always bought the generic discs. They're cheap and are perfectly fine, but compared with these...?The discs are covered with tiny holes, so you don't have to worry about trying to line them up with the holes on your sander.Just slap them on, and you're good to go.Although the holes are small, I found that the extraction of the dust was just as efficient, and you don't have the problem of catching one of the holes on your work piece and tearing the disc. They also make these discs without the holes, so check that you're ordering the correct type for you.The discs I bought were 120 grit. Fine enough for a final finish on the majority of work pieces. I tend to have a first sand with a normal, cheap, sand based larger grit disc, then finish off with these.Rather than just being made from sand stuck on a sheet, these have some super clever substrate, that constantly breaks at an angle, to always give you an abrasive surface, but without clogging.I must say, I was a little sceptical, but it works very well, and the discs do not get clogged up like the cheap discs. The constant breaking also means you're far less likely to get the little clumps of paint sticking to your disc, which then give you the 'spirals' on the surface of the work piece.I've been using them for a few months now, on a Makita 18v sander, and I can't ever imagine going back to just using generic discs.Yes, they are expensive, so I still use the cheap discs for the first rough sand. But, finishing with these gives a beautiful soft finish, I will probably buy a smaller grain set as well, for when you need a super duper smooth surface.Recommended.I hope you found this review helpful.
