Ethically bankrupt bait & switch advertising practices
I’ve been a Whoop subscriber since November 2024.When joining, one of the main reasons for getting Whoop was the upgrade promise, on their website, and spoken of by senior execs in public forums, that you paid for the subscription, the hardware was free and you’d always get the free hardware upgrade.Fast forward 6 months, and they launch Whoop 5.0.No free upgrade, just the option to pay for the device, or take out another 12 month subscription… Tried to pass this off as an erroneous blog post, but this upgrade promise was made to users in so many platforms, it’s positively ridiculous to claim otherwise.Not even massively bothered by the 4.0 straps being incompatible with 5.0, though it seems like a bit of a cash grab to not sell adapters.Customer support is awful, AI generated responses that are, at best, loosely related to the questions raised.If the device upgrade was free, I’d probably have thought “Shame about the bands, but I got the latest tracker!”.In this cash grab to get a few quid for a device upgrade, they’ve lost a recurring subscription worth 3 times more than they would get for an upgrade fee, and I won’t deal again with a company that will pull this type of stroke on their customer base.I’ve cancelled my subscription and currently trying to get a refund for the remainder of the subscription as they falsely advertised the product as sold.

Untrustworthy company
Was a Whoop 4.0 customer for 16 months now. The new device came out and Whoop walked back their upgrade promise (still visible on their website until March 2025) and are now insisting this was never the case. I now don't trust this company with any of my data, they are just out to make a quick buck. Their customer service is terrible and won't even reply, it's being over 4 days now since they last sent a AI generated email. Untrustworthy

Misleading Upgrade Promise
I bought WHOOP with a 12-month subscription based on their clear marketing (still visible in March 2025) that said: “WHOOP members receive the next-generation device for free after 6 months.” That was a key reason I committed.Fast forward to now—WHOOP has released two new devices and refuses to honour that promise. No free upgrade. And conveniently, they’ve since scrubbed all mentions of the “free upgrade” from their site.This is misleading advertising and terrible treatment of loyal customers. If you’re considering WHOOP, be warned: they can change the rules whenever they want and leave you stuck with outdated hardware.
