Trail: Paper Poetry Pop-Up Novelty Book – Pop up, October 2, 2007

Not my favorite pop-up book. Maybe it's simple sophistication was lost on me, but honestly - there are much better pop-up books out there. I love pop-up books and I love poetry, but in this book, neither is remarkable. The pop-ups are quite intricate - there are five total - done entirely in stiff white card stock and thus, the effect is almost non-existent. The poem is printed in silver ink so light, you might miss it if you didn't know it was there. What was probably intended to be quietly understated simply becomes mute and washed away.As noted, the pop-ups ARE quite intricate. However, they need some COLOR to POP! They are intended to illustrate the poem, but white pop-ups don't illustrate "green mossy banks" "evening sunset(s)," or "lily pond(s)!" The poem revolves around nature and feels uninspired and bland. This book is obviously the work of a serious pop-up artist. Unfortunately, it misses its mark.

This is no ordinary pop-up book, as if there was such a thing. Pelham's work is art, pure and simple. The story is written in rhyme, as we follow the slivery trail of a snail though a network of intricate pop-up shubbery. All kinds of secrets are discovered by us as we crawl along this wonderful landscape of white. And sweetest of all, there is a suprise at the end, that will continue to delight all viewers, no matter how many times you enjoy this book . . . for a matter of minitues, or like a snail, for as long as you need to.

This glorious book features intricate monochrome pop ups and a wheel you can turn to read the poetry that relates to each page. The all white theme highlights the intricacy of each three dimensional page and invites a new appreciation for the art of paper engineering. A prize for those that collect pop ups, this book would also make a great gift for those 'hard to buy for' loved ones. Anyone that enjoys art, poetry, creativity and design will love this book. It's the ultimate coffee table addition to a minimalist room or just a thing of joy and beauty to be treasured.

One of the most beautiful and delightful 3D books I have ever seen! I've given it as a gift to people of all ages who also love it. Can't imagine how it was made and reproduced in quantity as it's so intricate and detailed. Just gorgeous! The poetry wheels add even more to the experience and enjoyment of the art. If you're looking for the perfect gift, this is it!

I gave this book to my 13 year old grandson for Christmas and it was a great success. The book so captured his interest that he wanted to stop opening presents to read it. It is fasinating how the poetry comes to life in the pop-ups. At the same time the pop-ups don't overwhelm. I think the use of the white paper was inspirational. I will watch for further work by this author Pelham.

Intricate white pop-up constructions accented by a silvery trail and occasional mylar pieces create a unique and magical book. The poem is read by turning a wheel on each page, which seems entirely in keeping with the tone of the illustrations and the content. Be prepared to spend some time turning the book to view each page from all sides, and only that way will you eventually see everything there is to see. It is a wonderful book to savor at leisure. It will be a treasured addition to any pop-up collectors bookshelf.

This is this kind of dreamed garden where you can hide yourself when you are overwhelmed by real world problems. I buy it for me and for many people that treasure them. It is one of those rare and delicate objects that you want to keep with you all your life. I was a little unsure if the price meant that they were books with some kind of defect but they were perfects.

This book is simply beautiful. I never knew pop-up books could be so intricate! The detail is realy amazing. It's mostly white, with some sliver highlights and sometimes clear plastic used for bug wings or something. The rhyming story is simple, but nice, and the way it's read is interesting--there's little wheels on each page that you spin to reveal the words of the story. This is a wonderful book for any age.

I have a collection of pop up books and thought this one would be different being all white. On first opening the book I felt disappointed with my purchase but after repeated viewing and closer inspection I have changed my mind. It is very detailed and the little creatures are to be found hidden under leaves and flowers or in plain sight as everything is white except for part of the last page. I seem to find something different every time I look at it. Anyone who enjoys paper engineering should appreciate this one.

I bought this for my other-half's Xmas present in 2010I know she likes artistic and unusual books and this seemed to fit the bill perfectly.She loved it at the time but what's more important is that even now, she still comments on how it was"the best thing you ever bought me"Now I've bought her a lot of stuff over the years, so that's quite a claim - it is, therefore, the best gift I ever bought from Amazon ;0

With innovation and crafty technical skills, David has created a simple story and composed it with stunningly complicated and intricate paper cutting and pop-up skills. It is also moderistic...Less on the front makes it very much more inside. It is a pleasure to own a book like this.

I didn't know what to expect from this but I am enchanted by this book. I keep finding hidden delights in its pages. The pop-ups are full page with a wonderful intricacy to them. It would be suitable for all ages except for the very young and sticky fingered (lots of white paper!).

Purchased for a friend who was ecstatic about it's outstanding engineering and hidden delights which also entranced young and old alike.
