Hunter PGP Ultra Rotor Head 4" Pop-Up

I used this to replace an old head that wasn't rotating properly. It was fairly easy. I did the initial arc adjustment before installing it. After installing it was spraying too far. It was easy to adjust the screw to reduce the radius. I also made a small adjustment by using these directions: "Another way to reset the right arc is to unscrew the body cap counterclockwise and remove the internal assembly from the body. Once removed, rotate the nozzle turret to the right stop, screw the internal assembly back into the body with the nozzle aligned to the right side of the area you want irrigated. At this point you have realigned the right arc stop, and you can adjust the left arc to an appropriate setting." Should this die prematurely then I'll update this review.

Already had these installed in my front yard. Bought these to replace impact sprinklers in the backyard. These are both quieter and more efficient offer more adjustment options than impact sprinklers. They provide even coverage over a wide area. You will need to order an adjustment tool since this package did not include one.

Warning, if it doesn't show the "Tool" and a "Nozzle Pack" then all we get is a sprinkler head... only. Works great if all you need is to replace the head you busted plowing snow or mowing ... no need to dig up your old one as you can just screw in the head portion and you are set!. Me... I thought it was coming with all the hardware and had a tizzy fit when all I got was a loose head rolling around in a large box ... I figured someone returned them and I wound up with their returns... stripped of "Tool", "Nozzle" and Instructions. But that's all you get and if you want the whole Nozzle Kit Amazon sells it for about 2 bucks more. I'm old and not the sharpest "On-Line Shopper" so don't make my mistake and have a melt down. I ordered 14 sprinkler heads from Sprinklerhut through Amazon. Sprinklerhut included a nozzle tree with about a dozen different nozzles for EACH sprinkler head. A whole big bag of nozzles! But, they didn't send the special $3.00 tool to change the nozzles and adjust the rotation! I mean c'mon, $180 purchase and they can't include ONE cheap plastic tool? To be fair, the tool was not in the product description. Fortunately, I had a tool on hand. It was included with an Orbit Voyager II that I bought locally from a big box store. The Hunter PGP Ultra's are installed and working great. They can be adjusted for just about everything: rotation, throw radius and flow. Changing nozzles is easy and i changed all of them at least twice. I need to install a couple check valves on the lowest heads because they drain a little when when they are off. Its not a defect. I think any head would do the same and the Hunter website says the same. I bought these because they were recommended by a professional and I was putting in a lot of time and effort installing my own system. I am not disappointed. BTW, the Orbit Voyager II's are EXACTLY the same rotor. I had both in my hand trying to find the difference. The nozzles interchange, the dimensions are the same, the adjustments and even the symbols on the cap are the same. Only difference is the color of the cap; green on the Orbit, black on the Hunter. Update - Still going strong after 3 years. None of them has failed. I blow my lines out every fall and for 3 summers now they've picked up right where they left off. My system runs at 33 - 37 PSI. I'm using ground water from my basement sump because it runs almost year round. The water is pumped out to a holding tank. When that fills to a certain point, it turns on the pump and irrigates my lawn. There is mineral deposits in the water and I can see it building up a coating on the sides of the tank but so far, no adverse affect on any of my sprinkler heads.

I had the sprinkler system installed 8 years ago. The rotors has weathered through many harsh New England weather. Most of them are still functioning fine, I replaced 3 rotors due to natural wear and tear to the rubber cap, which deteriorated and allowed small dirt particles to wedge is places it shouldn't. In turn causing the rotor to fail. Replaced 3 of 24 heads over 8 years... yes, I'd gladly stick with Hunter rotors just for that fact. The rotor can rotate 360degree, spray distance varies based on the nozzle used and your water psi level. I was able to cover about 45ft, but when I used the mist like nozzle, it dropped to about 30ft. So it's can be tweaked to whatever you need. Very happy with the product. Let's hope they last as long as the previous rotors I just replaced.

We had a leaking head after about 15 years of use and this was an easy replacement. The nozzles are different from our old head, but it was easy to use one that gave the same coverage as the old one. Just a few minutes to get things back in working order.

Although I only installed the two Hunter PGP Ultra units today I can say that I already like them. They function much better than the comparable products and are much easier to adjust. Additionally, Rain Bird offers no phone tech support; Hunter actually has a real person who can answer questions. I will buy more of these again.

The house I moved into used these type of sprinkler heads to water the lawn. The adjustability is nice, but I had to replace a few already because the part that screws onto the body seems to crack easily over time. These cracks wind up having water profusely percolate out of the lawn turning a few areas into instant marshland. I have had to replace 5 of these so far, but Id much rather stick with the regular Rainbird or Orbit pop up sprinklers for home use. The Hunter PGP pop ups may have their uses elsewhere, but I'm just weary of the quality of these heads seeing how the collar cracks so easily.
