A clunky software problem at first, but exemplary TELEPHONE (!) customer service solution!
Going into this experience I must first divulge I originally sought a software version that would work with my older MacOS version 10.10.5. That I why I purchased the downloadable software via the Stellar store on Amazon.com (as opposed to the Stellar website) because the software version I found there affirmed it would work with my older OS version.This review is in praise of Stellar's customer service but it will be critical of one procedural item. Once you download the software be sure to enter the Activation Code first! Don't do what I did which was going ahead and running a deep scan of my nearly 8TB of data before entering an Activation code. That scan of an external hard drive I had stupidly and carelessly performed a quick format before realizing it was a dreadful mistake took over three consecutive days to complete. Ah, being human. Once the scan was complete I clicked on the “Recover” button where the app then naturally asked me for the Activation code. As you'll read in other reviews here, it would not recognize the code. So I took a deep breath and decided to sleep on it to calm down. The next day I submitted a ticket on the StellarInfo.com website and was impressed with the speed by which I received a reply. They honored my request by providing a new download link and Activation code based on my purchase proof provided in the original ticket (good impression #2). However, after downloading and installing this second software copy, the software would not run on my computer. Disappointed for sure, and after reporting this on my continued ticket, I expressed a preference for someone to call me as opposed to continuing the conversation via the ticket interface. I was amazed this was not only an option, but I promptly received a call from “Naveen” (good impression #3). I gave Naveen permission to remotely access my computer to navigate with me and he quickly discovered my old OS (I forgot to point out I had the old OS in the ticket). Though he advised me he had no older software version with Activation code to offer me and said the only way this replacement software would work would be by updating the OS on my computer, he was willing to honor my request to at least walk through the installation of my original Amazon purchased download one more time. But instead of performing the scan once installed and eventually entering the Activation code, Naveen entered the Activation code first and, it worked (good impression #4)! Also fortunately, I was smart enough to have saved the text file record of my original three-day scan as offered by the software before aborting and deleting the software from my system. That saved text file saved me another three days worth of rescanning the hard drive again because the now working software was able to load up the entire three days worth of scan records in minutes leaving me ready to move forward with recovery. But what was most impressive (good impression #5) was what occurred around three hours later when my phone rang once more and Naveen was on the other end of the phone. He simply wanted to check up on me to see if I had made progress and if I had questions. And he answered them all. He even helped me recognize the empty 8TB recovery destination drive I was having difficulty getting the software to recognize needed to be reformatted itself because he had me hook up another external drive that did work. Once again, I am especially pleased with this company's customer service and kudos to Naveen for exemplary service.So, it appears there may be two reasons why an activation code may not work once the software is installed: 1) enter the code BEFORE performing your first scan and; 2) be sure your OS is up to date sufficiently for the software version your buying.Lastly, it’s not worth being sloppy with your hard drives. Take your time. Though I’m now able to recover everything I feared lost, I must now deal with the serious compromise of the fact that ALL of these now recovered files no longer have their original file names. This is no fault of the data recovery software. It’s my fault for being sloppy with my hard drive (aka being human).

Worked Exceptionally Well
I have the highest praise for this app. I had a usb thumb drive with highly valuable and sensitive information that became corrupted and unreadable. Only partially (as is typical) backed up. This program identified and saved EVERY file. A life saver!A small issue — the activation key Amazon provided me did not work. But the Stellar team (after documenting that I actually purchased the app) provided a valid key. And I was good to go. Excellent not support.If you need to recover something important, give this a try. I’m very pleased.

PRODUCT DOES NOT WORK!
Paid for the software, downloaded the application, received the activation key, entered the key, software WILL NOT recognize the key. I paid for the premium version but only have the features of the shareware version because of a flawed key or inability of the app to accept the key. I need this product to restore files to a an iMac that refuses to boot up. I suppose I learned a lesson about buying a downloadable product. Now I am out $$ and a half-day's effort trying to make the %$@12 thing work.

Don't buy on Amazon
If you want this software, I'd suggest going straight to the web page and getting it. The key that amazon provides does not work and from the other reviews, its looking like about 30% of the time you'll get a non functioning key. Like all software, do your research and make sure it's the right tool for the job. I think this one is doing the job for me. I say I think because I can not complete the functions until I get a legitimate key.

Excellent value for the money
It helped me recover all data deleted because of Trojan virus. It took some time sorting through previously deleted and corrupt files. But with this tool, I was able to recover about 99% of my lost data. Thanks again - life saver!

DOES NOT WORK
This software cannot do what it promises: access a dead hard drive. More specifically, it cannot make a bootable disk drive so as to be able to access the dead drive. What's worse, the file they then ask you to download to make a bootable disk requires restarting the download manually at least twenty time to complete the download, after which it opens into another zip file, which is not openable/usable. After weeks of badgering support, a new file is suggested for download, which also stops and requires endless manual restarts, except this time the file is 8GB in size!!! After that doesn't work - we are at 3 weeks and dozens of hours wasted now - support asks for remote access to my personal computer. No thanks. Oh - support also suggested I try using software to open the file that only works on Windows, and this is (obviously) a mac. Waiting for company to act on repeated requests for a refund since their product not only didn't work as promised, the solutions they proposed to fix the original problem were themselves time-wasters of major proportions. Very dissatisfied customer.
