Good for historical purposes but little actual instruction
I had a bit higher hopes for this. Good from a historical standpoint but little more than notes that offer little in the way of actual instruction.

Concise, well written.
Concise, well written. I wish it contained a bit more information, but by practicing the advice in this book, you can't go wrong.

Applegate and Fairbairn are simply the "Gold Standard".Everyone else builds on them. Howevr, it could benfit from an upda.

Not bad
Definitely one sided on the portrayal of knife fighting. no one wants to get into a knife fight but you have to make sure all your bases are covered.

Excellent book!
Excellent book! This book covers the brutal basics of knife fighting. It describes the best knives, tactics, stance and techniques, and vulnerable areas of the human body. The language is straight forward and to the point... No pun intended...It is a short read, but contains a wealth of life-saving information! Highly recommended!

Great Little "Booklet"
What most reviewers have said about this being a "short booklet" or "pamphlet" is entirely true, but they seem to have missed the point that THAT IS THE POINT!!! This is a fine introduction to the Applegate--and, therefore, the Fairbairn-Sykes--method of knife fighting. It wasn't meant to be an in depth study. It was meant to be an abbreviated "booklet" to accompany and explain the differences, purpose and use of the Applegate-Fairbairn combat knife. The "in depth" stuff has already been written and if that's what you're looking for buy both the 1943 and 1976 editions of "Kill or Get Killed", "The Close Combat Files of Colonel Rex Applegate", Fairbairn's "All-In Fighting, Styers' "Cold Steel" and Cassidy's "The Complete Book of Knife Fighting". Also, try to get your hands on the DVD "Gutterfighting", which features WE Fairbairn actually demonstrating his knife and unarmed methods. Too many people just can't accept that effective close combat is relatively simple and relies more on physical practice and mental conditioning than it does on complicated techniques and transcendental nonsense. If you're looking for an "art" to practice that'll allow you to become "one with the universe" or "find yourself", simply move along and search elsewhere. But, if you want effective armed and unarmed methods that'll save your life, immerse yourself in Applegate, Fairbairn, Sykes, Nelson, Styers, Biddle and Grant-Taylor--then search out some of the modern devotees, such as Bradley Steiner and William Cassidy, for further explanation and clarification of the methods of the masters of close combat.
