So much more than 5 points!
Wow, this book has it all; History, Doctrine, encouragement, etc. Calvinism is so much broader than most people think. Beeke along with a great number of Reformed theologians and pastors, show the multifaceted aspects of Calvinism. Starting from the history of Calvinism, the book moves to Calvinist distinctions in a variety of subjects from Scripture to Church Government. When on the subject of Calvinism, many think predestination is the only subject most Calvinist are interested in. This book proves that kind of thinking is totally false. The authors show that Calvinism, not only consists in the five points, but also includes many subjects i.e. holiness, prayer, church government, scripture, worship, preaching, evangelism, marriage, family, work, Politics, ethics, and so much more.If you are a Calvinist or you are just interested in what Calvinism consists of, this is the book for you.Packed full of quotes from modern authors, past Reformers, and the Puritans; this book not only informs, it also sends you to a more in-depth study with each end note. At the end of each chapter there are discussion questions for personal or group review.I found myself writing down a list of books to search for with each chapter. This book is on my list to read again in the future. This is a great companion to another book by Beeke called "Meet the Puritans"I highly recommend it to all believers and non-believers alike.*This book was provided free of Charge by Reformed Trust in exchange for an honest review.

Excellent primer on Calvinism
I read this book at my pastor's suggestion. Beeke does an excellent job of describing the Reformation, beginning with its forefather Jan Hus, through Luther's schism, Zwingli and Calvin's continued work on Luther's ideas, and so on till the present day. I knew nothing of Calvinism until I read this, and I know now. Calvinism is much misunderstood, but I do find many of its adherents to be what I consider unnecessarily and extremely conservative in their lives. D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, my favorite preacher, considers himself a "Bible Calvinist," that is, his examination of Scripture concurs with Calvin's, but he is careful to point out that Christians should not consider themselves followers of this or that theologian, just as Paul warned the church at Corinth about this, that he, Cephas, Apollos, and the other disciples spreading the message were preaching Christ crucified and nothing else, and that a true disciple would never spread the Gospel for his or her own gain or glory. Great book.

WONDERFUL, a must-have
I LOVE this book. It's fabulous because it's thorough yet readable. What a blessing to be able to have one book house so much of the doctrine I communicate to others as a Bible teacher. Thank you, Joel Beeke!

Intense Introduction to Calvinism
This is a very well written introduction to Calvinism. Naturally, Beeke devotes a few chapters explaining the "5-points," but the majority of the book focuses on how Calvinism/Reformed Theology fuels every aspect of one's life, including work, education, politics, family, etc.At the end of the day, Calvinism is God-centric, and therefore always leads to doxology.Soli Deo Gloria! To God alone be glory!

JOEL BEEKE BOOK
Joel Beeke, "Living for God's Glory: An Introduction to Calvinism." Personally, I think this is one of the best books written in modern times as to the history of Calvinism, as well as a logical and clear explanation of Calvinism. I would highly recommend this book to anyone wanting an "honest" explanation without "charged" words and slanted hypotheticals, but instead provides the reader with an objective understanding of the many arguments and nuances centered around the controversies of Calvinism.

Calvinism Inside & Out
An excellent book that starts with the history of the Reformation and the reasons for it and takes the reader up to the present day. This book covers every aspect of Calvisism and Puritanism. From it's effects on evangilism, family living, marriage, worship and work as well as everything in between. I highly recommend this book! I feel that even the most devout Calvinist can benefit from reading this book, not to mention those who hold to Arminianism or Partial-Pelagianism.

More than five points
Dr. Beeke does an excellent job showing the historical- and more still the biblical- roots of Calvinistic theology, worship, and community. The chapters written by his contributors blend well into the general book, and the whole work presents a glorious picture of the Christian's life as lived for God's glory. I would use this book to teach basic Christian spirituality, as well as distinctive Calvinist dogma.

Very helpful
This is one of the most helpful books I have read. A caricature of Calvinism is that it is about dry doctrine, especially the five points. However, it is so much more. Yes, the book covers doctrine - living doctrine, not dry doctrine - but it also shows us that Biblical truth (that Calvin happened to expound so helpfully) is truth for life, covering all of life. This book has changed my thinking, warmed my heart and challenged the way I live. I strongly recommend it.

a very very nice introduction to Calvinism
It is more than an introduction. The contents on how the puritans lived are worthy of being read again and again, everytime one feels the necessity for praising the glory of the Almighty and become like our savior Jesus Christ.
