Great sounds, needs some updating
The sounds from this drum machine are great, I love the A+B and Fills and it's fun to play with. You will need to sit down with a beverage and read the manual however, it's not user friendly.A couple Gotchas:1) It will receive midi Start/stop signals and midi clock as expected. However pressing Stop button on the unit disconnects from the Midi clock signal, so the next press of the Start button won't pick up the Midi clock. This is super annoying and the only Midi instrument I have that the Start doesn't check for Midi clock before playing.2) Compose vs. Playback. The unit has a neat compose feature where you can compose on the fly, cool right? Mostly. If you exit Compose mode, you can't go back into it without pressing the Stop button. If you press the stop you disconnect from Midi sync. These problems are purely firmware, and I'd love to see Aesis just fix some of these problems which would breathe new life into an old classic.

Poor quality samples
Went through every pre-set on the back of the drum machine.Worst hip- hop& rap samples I've ever heard.I mean how hard is it to get the 808 drum right .Country , Latin , even blues . All sound like amateur samples & patterns.Difficult to adjust effects parameters. Very cheesy !! Put it back in the box after playing with it for 2hrs in my studio. Ended up buying and old school 1999 Boss DR-770 from Japan.Easier to program, record , or just playing the way better sounding pre-sets.

Excellent for home studio
Excellent for me.I use it for home studio. I prefer to play dry sounds and i add little EQ and effects in my Tascam Dp-24 SD multitrack recorder.I find that is more easy and natural to play with multipad drum with connected to SR-16.I like the 3 audio outputs which i connect to the tascam. It's also simple to create and patterns for songs. Really, it's a good product.

Super Fun!
I haven't started recording with this yet because I'm still having too much fun playing around with all of the presets. There's a bit of a learning curve around how hard you hit the pads, but once you get the feel down it plays perfectly. This is probably the best toy I've bought for myself all year.

The drum samples sound great
It sounded really good (realistic) compared to the drum VST plugins I use with reaper (daw).
