Lenovo X1 Carbon (gen 1 Oweners) - Please Read
Like most of you, I quickly learned I needed an adapter to be able to plug a normal X1 M2 drive. However, what I didn't realize is there are different size M2 drives. I purchased the WD Blue 3D NAND 500GB M2 2280 drive and noticed that the adapter caused my drive to extend across the SD card port (sits above it). Ultimately this causes the keyboard to protrude up a little bit, but it's not very noticeable for me. I was unable to secure the drive via screw because of the additional length, but I used some electrical tape to hold the drive in place. This seems to work. Note that the M2 drives list their size. In the case of my M2 2280, it is 22mm X 80mm (2280). If you're able to find a shorter drive, it should be able to fit within the normal length. I believe you'll need no longer than the 2260, but I'm not 100% sure. Note that these smaller drives are more expensive, which is why I ended up sticking with the 80mm length drive. Considering the current retail value of the laptop, a barely noticeable bulge in the keyboard was worth the savings.

Thinkpad X1 Carbon 1st gen upgrade success
Purchased a cheap ($60) and neglected 1st gen X1 Carbon on eBay, that was of course missing the original SSD. Did the research, and took a chance on this adapter paired with the MyDigitalSSD 256 NGFF m.2 drive that is also sold on Amazon. I expected there to be a bulge in the keyboard after the installation...but even my extremely picky self cannot see or feel one. I let 3 of my co-workers carefully examine the entire keyboard and palmrest area, and none of them could see any type of bulge. So if there is one, it is so minute that you just can't see or feel it.Obviously, very pleased with this adapter. I will update the review if anything happens.

Works well on first gen Lenovo X1 carbon
My daughter is starting college and needs a larger SSD on her Lenovo X1 carbon. A lot of online posts recommended skipping the Lenovo parts (too expensive) and purchasing a 226O SSD and an adapter and replace the SSD ourselves. Worked great. She now has a 500 GB SSD. two things to know:There a special drive command to run when you install the OS. Look it up on YouTubeGet a tiny Phillips screwdriver and look for instructions on YouTube to open the laptop. It's not intuitive

Works well however did not screw in
I used an M.2 2280 SSD drive with it (kingston) and for some reason when i screw the Aneew on the board of the thinkpad it did not work. I ended up plug in the adapter without screwing it . added a small piece of tape to hold the longer SSD M.2 2280 but then it worked like a charm. the keyboard secure everything nicely once you screw the keyboard in place.

Did not work
Tried to use this adapter to install a Transcend MTS430S M.2 2242 SSD to an X1 Carbon gen1. Didn't work, drive was no-show. The drive itself tested working in a different system, so this adapter was at fault. The way the adapter and the drive fit looks a little sketchy, so I'm skeptical whether a replacement would work any better. Looks like there are a lot of sellers selling this exact same adapter, or ones very similar to it, but I was able to find an alternative type of an adapter that actually worked and let the laptop see the 430s SSD.
