Pure Lye Sodium hydroxide, also known as Caustic Soda or Lye, is a product that is used in the creation of soap, detergent, paper, textiles and drinking water. It is a chemical base and comes packaged as a white solid. Soap making: Fats and oils, by themselves, do not mix with water. Sodium hydroxide breaks up the triglyceride in fats and oils and turns the fatty acids into sodium salts. The salts reduce the surface tension in liquids and allow grease to be easily washed away with water. Try making a pure soap with no perfume, fragrances, dyes or additives that can irritate your skin. Using a pure soap with only the glycerin can cleanse and improve your skin condition – no matter what that condition is. Pure lye soap will sooth insect bites and actually repel insects with its residue. Try shaving your lye soap and using it as a laundry detergent, or rub a bar directly on a problem stain. Lye soap has been found to be as effective as commercial products on the market. Great price - best I could find anywhere at the ...
Great price - best I could find anywhere at the time (except for perhaps much larger quantities). I use this to make soap and have had no issues whatsoever. The container is ideal as well.

Good price and seems like high strength
This product was destined for use on a clogged drain. There was a very strong chemical smell on opening the container which made it seem like it had to be high strength. Seemed to help drain. Haven't tried a lot of it yet because of concerns over whether high concentrations would ruin the plumbing somehow. The product itself looks like little tiny balls, as opposed to a fluffy powder that floats in the air.Be careful about pouring. It is very easy to get granules on the hands, which then become extremely slippery after contact with water.

The beads react to static
I bought this for soap making and for that it worked really well. The only reason why I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is that this product in bead form is susceptible to jumping around because of static. It comes in a plastic container and when poured into a plastic measuring cup, the beads jumped around, many landing outside the measuring cup. The next time I used it I poured the beads into a glass measuring cup which was better. I imagine if anti-static containers were used the beads would be easier to handle safely.

Makes nice soap!
I like the pour spout. Sometimes there is static, so I always set a dryer sheet under container that I’m pouring into-works great!
