Good little scanner
Good little scanner. Gets the job done and for a good price

Very poor squelch design
Very poor squelch design. You can only set it for "HI or LO" No alpha tagging as well. If you're looking for a non trunking analog scanner then save your money and get the Uniden BC125AT. That is an excellent scanner at this price point.

Nice basic scanner
GRE has been making high quality scanners for years, many of Radio Shacks scanners have been made by GRE. If you want a pocket size non-trunking scanner this is a good one. It has a big easy to read display and great sound. Why only 4 stars? Two reasons. If you live in any kind of large metropolis odds are you need a trunk tracking radio if you want to listen to fire and police. I bought mine to listen to marine VHF and aviation frequencies knowing I would not be able to listen to the police. The second reason is the manufacturer has gone out of business. GREAmerica says they will continue to support the radios currently in use. Realistically, with no new product they can only do that for a limited time. At around $100.00 it is a nice little scanner. If I were buying it again I think I would stay with a company still in business, like Uniden.

Works okay, but needed to obtain technical help from outside source.
Too difficult to program. Instruction guide of forty-eight pages difficult to understand. Needed to obtain technical assistance from an outside source.

Good Scanner but bad performance in Urban Areas
For the price, you can't beat the functionality. Scanning 800Mhz and 1.2Ghz in a handheld unit for less than $70 was too good to be true. Unit was (for me) easy to setup and program about 90-channels in an hour. Sadly, I live in an urban area, so the airwaves are pretty saturated.3-STARS for the following reasons:+ The attenuation (ATT) function on this radio is crap.+ Frequency bleedover when using upgraded antennas.+ Hit-and-miss frequency monitoring with the Hi/Lo squelch function.First, You can only attenuate one frequency at a time, and the function will not work in scan/search modes. Without using ATT function, the radio picks up weird bleed over from local FM broadcast stations even monitoring hundreds of Mhz above the 108Mhz cut-off for broadcast FM radio. With the included 4" rubber duck, I get some signals. It is hit-or-miss as I will pickup a transmission on frequency x one minute, then miss it the next. If you drop the squelch to low or turn it off, I got just alot of static. In experimenting for better reception, I put this unit along side my Uniden BC355N and tried multiple BNC antenna combinations. NOAA weather alerts and local FM broadcast radio are nice and clear all the time for PSR-120. I locked both scanners on the same frequency (departure frequency for local intl. airport) and listened. The BC355N picked up about twice the number of transmissions as the PSR-120 did. Next, I switched things up and swapped the antennas; giving the PSR-120 the 8ft long BCN scanner antenna, and the BC335N its own telescoping steel antenna. In this configuration, the PSR-120 matched the BC355N's reception ability on about 3/4 of transmissions. There were some more distant transmissions, the PSR-120 simply couldn't pick up, but that came in clearly on the BC355N. Squelch settings on the PSR-120 didn't help for these more distant transmissions.Trying scan on the PSR-120 with upgraded antennas resulted in copious amounts of static, regardless of squelch setting, on nearly every one of the 90-channels I programmed into it. I tried this both indoors and outdoors with the same results. I can stop and turn on the ATT function and the channel clears and will only pick up strong/clear signals, but a scanner should be able to do this across the scan range, not just 1 channel.Summary: Some really great features in an inexpensive, light weight, easy to use and configure package. Reception is spotty in urban areas and fitting better antennas only makes it worse. Attenuation only works on single frequency at a time. If you live in rural areas with much fewer signals in the air, this is probably the handheld scanner for you.

Well made, compact, easy to use, and very durable.
This is an excellent scanner. It goes for 8 hours on rechargeable batteries and picks up signals easily. Have dropped it a few times without consequence. I wish the squelch was more adjustable(hi/lo only) and the belt clip is a pain, but I'm happy with this purchase just the same.
