A useful guide to European cities
We have long collected the "36 Hours" pages from the travel section of The New York Times as useful guides for short stays or weekend trips in Europe and the U.S. It's nice to have them all in one place and we are using several of the articles for an upcoming trip with one night stays in Milan and Verona and longer visits to Bologna and Venice. That said, a few caveats. The book is far too nice to cut up, as I often do with more traditional travel guides, and so thick that copying sections to carry with you is a bit of a chore. Also, as with all printed guide books, the specifics - opening times, restaurant and hotel recommendations can quickly become out-of-date - so best to double check with more current sources. Nevertheless, the book is full of lovely pictures and will long serve as an easy way to remember past trips and spur our interest in future explorations.

I Cannot Get Enough of These Books!
These books are pure hybrids. A travel guide, but not. A cocktail table tome, but more. I have the Europe and the USA volumes. I never go anywhere now without checking this source first. I am actually disappointed if my destination is not covered! These entries take you to great places off the beaten path. Detailed for travel, but interesting for just sitting on your couch perusing. The pictures are wonderful. Sure, you can't take it on the plane, but each entry is only a couple of pages long; isn't that why God made copiers and scanners? If you travle or just want to, this book gets you ready and gets you there. I am not going to stop until I get the whole set! I keep it updated by checking the NYT Sunday Travel section. They go back and review some of these places again, and are always adding new spots too.

Great Book! Shipping - not so much.
The book is great! It's the shipping that got messed up, TWICE! I ordered a bunch of things including this book and both times the book never made it. It kept getting returned to amazon. I ordered it a final and third time to a different shipping address before it came. What can I say I really wanted it! The book is a simple concise travel book highlighting things to do in every European city big or small. It's more a coffee table book as it's too heavy to take on your travels.

Nice for short trips
Need a weekend away? This book has a number of European weekend getaway options. It summarizes each location into a 36 hour itinerary complete with hotels, sites, restaurants and activities to enjoy over a 36 hour period, or weekend getaway. These short stories come from the New York Times travel section where every week, they highlight a weekend away within a 36 hour time period. I enjoy read the travel section of the times and it is nice to get them all bound into one book.AlfredFYI: If your looking for Hawaii things to do: [...]

We used it when we hit 6 cities in a month
It's not real in-depth - but how could it be when it focuses on only 36 hours in each city. We used it when we hit 6 cities in a month. I found it helpful it getting each city's highlights quickly and in some cases finding some real hidden gems - hard to believe given it's popularity.

A very cool resource!
Very cool book -- I bought it as a gift for my husband and he loves it. A lot of great information and easily markable. We will be using it to plan our next trip to Europe.

the book itself was just very underwhelming and didn't really help like I'd hoped on my weekend adventures in Europe
The product I received was exactly as advertised, the book itself was just very underwhelming and didn't really help like I'd hoped on my weekend adventures in Europe.

I bought this for my brother who is a big European traveler and does extensive research on his own. Thought it might give him soe out-of-the way tips for activities and stops. Think he liked it. Very heavy book - obviously a reference to be used at home.

This book is quite nicely made, with a lovely cover and high gsm paper throughout. It's a hefty tome that covers most of the major cities in Europe and some more obscure ones as well. It's well written, easy to understand and makes a good coffee table book. However, I think it is a bit limited in terms of choice and offers a very specific type of holiday (Lots of eating and drinking, not too much sight seeing) and its important to note that its setup for people that like to travel at the upper end of the spectrum of cost. Some of the places it recommends to stay / eat at, are not reviewed highly elsewhere either. For the right sort of traveller, that just wants to be told what to do in a city and is happy following a specific guide, then this book is excellent. For everyone else you'll probably get better value in other books elsewhere.

Excellent book for weekend getaways around Europe
I just love this book. It is perfect for my weekend getaways in Europe! Some things obviously can be outdated but they are very few, the general overview is excellent! Very nice design, cute and user friendly. I love how it is seperated geographically with colours and ribbon book marker per colour area with witch you can easily mark the pages you are interested in. Highly recommended and very good value comparing to the high street where you can find it half the price. I realise this is an older edition but it was the latest when I bought it. Obviously it is too big to carry around during your weekend but I tend to mark places or take a few pictures of the pages of the place I am visiting.

I bought it as a present to a couple of friends that were going to visit Europe for a month. Even though they have already planned their holidays, they told me that they found the book very useful. The only problem was that It wasnt very convenient for them because it was fairly big and they had to carry it around.

Great for plans for 2018 and wondering where to go first!... What about all those places where you have never to- there are endless short break options and you can plan a budget escape. Excellent.
