Significant upgrade over Tacoma JBL stock sub. Need a 3/4" spacer and let them break in.
3 week update:5 stars for the price. They've broken in and I put a proper fitting spacer behind them so they are fitted nice and tight with no gaps. The bass is coming out full and tight now. Stock amp is pushing them well enough. No clipping anymore at the volume I like. Now I gotta upgrade the front-door speakers. This is definitely a significant upgrade over the stock sub and I'm really enjoying my car audio again. I got one of those android head units that can push the system to it's max capabilities so I'm not sure if a stock head unit would sound as good, but I would guess it will be at least a modest upgrade with that as well. At the very least, this would be a cheap replacement on a blown sub.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I upgraded my 2012 Tacoma JBL stock system with a new head unit. I saw this cheap sub available at the same time and figured for the price why not?The first issue is this is actually a bit too deep for the stock JBL box and needs about a 3/4" spacer. Not a big deal, just know that before getting it. You will also need to drill in a different hole pattern into the JBL box, but with longer screws. I used some 2" drywall screws. Again, not a big deal especially if you know that going in.The new unit has way more control over bass and has a loud setting which really gives a much richer sound and pushes the bass and speakers a lot harder, but it's severely underpowered with the stock amp which only puts out 110w Max and 55 RMS. I have had to really play with the settings but can get a decent bass from it that doesn't clip very noticeably and at a good volume. I've come up with something I like, for now. If I can find an easy AMP solution I will add that next. It's possible that the factory head unit will not push it as hard and be a good upgrade from the stock sub. If you have a blown sub, this is a good cheap fix as well. For the price, it's worth it to upgrade the stock sub in a Toyota JBL system but don't expect a huge upgrade without more power. .

put in 2009 hyundai santa fe limited with the infinity sound system
my 2009 hyundai santa fe has an infinity sound system with built in amp and 8 inch subwoofer. the factory sub blew and i was looking for a replacement. this had the same specs at a good price and i couldnt find a direct replacement short of buying the entire enclosure from hyundai for $700. nope!unfortunatly, because of the shape of the metal enclosure on this compared to the stock sub, this didnt fit in perfectly. the metal enclosure on this is maybe a half inch to an inch wider and wont fit into the enclosure perfectly. if you take the side panel out completely, which requires removing the back seats, you could dremmel out a bit of the plastic enclosure and get a better fit. the screw holes line up, its just the metal cage thats different. i didnt do all that. i only loosened the side panel and didnt really want to remove the seats to take it all the way out. so i used some foam insulation around the edge and screwed the sub in as far as it would go. the only issue with that is it puts the sub right up against the side panel and then you cant get the factory cover back on. but honestly, i dont care about that. it sounds great, in my opinion even better than before the stock sub blew. i got a universal cover, ended up using a 10 inch cover to fit over the factory mount, to protect the speaker and im good with the way it looks. 5 stars because it works and sounds great and none of the issues i had with installing it were due to the sub, it was just the way hyundai built the factory enclosure.

Bang-for-a-Buck!
The media could not be loaded. Video note: The rattling is from my car, it is 10 years old after all. But it does help understand how bass-y this can be. Especially if you wear a good headset or use a good speaker and listen to the video. Song is: "6 Du Mat by Naza", bass gets reeeal deep in the chorus... another good bass test is "Bad Guy by Billie Ellish", since the whole song is bass. Also my car's bass is maxed out, because this is a 2ohm subwoofer...I drive a 2010 Kia Soul +, this car comes with 2 4ohm speakers in the front (Loud with no bass), 2 2ohm speakers in the back (Mid sound, with good bass), and a subwoofer in the back (ALL BASS). I am not a sound expert, but this speaker is very good. I installed this to replace my $100 broken trunk subwoofer... AFTER, I BROKE IT IN FOR A WEEK!!! The sound quality was amazing, considering the price. If you need to replace a speaker, get this. It is extremely easy to set up, you might need longer wires though.Worst-case (I had the worse case), you might need to push in the wire connectors a little to fit it (This fixed it for me). I listen to my music on the low-end... mostly, occasionally I run up the volume. The speakers hold up well, especially since I BROKE THEM IN FOR A WEEK!!! Seriously, DO NOT go max volume at least for a while, or you will on Amazon within a week looking for another speaker.Let them break in, especially since they are cheap, and remember... They are cheap, if you wanna go full Kanye Concert in your car... Get a $100+ speaker.

Pleasantly Surprised
Bought these to replace a couple of Rockford P3 shallow mount subs that where in my Jeep when I bought it. The Rockford's just didn't have the frequency response I was after. I wanted to go with some JL 8W3's but wasn't willing to spend $700 for a pair of 8" subs. I stumbled on these Scar's they spec'd out for what I needed and two 8" subs for less than $100 figured why not. All I can say is while not JL Audio subs these little guys are a hell of a value. They it low for 8's plus the overall sound quality is solid. As an added bonus the grills from my P3's fit perfectly. Are the JL 8W3's better yes, but are they $600 more better no. I would definitely recommend Skar subs for a solid affordable alternative to higher priced premium subs.
