Ambient WeatherWS-4000 Solar Powered UltraSonic Wi-Fi Weather Station

I love love love the display screen on this model. Had the ws-2902 and really liked it. Lately the wind gauges had become inconsistent so I upgraded to the. WS-4000. Really love it. First there are no moving sensors and the unit itself is quite compact. But the best part is the display is absolutely great. Sharp clear crisp and a wide viewing angle compared to the WS-2902.

The set up was easy, the display is legible across a room. I’ll defer any reference to accuracy until I’ve had the unit longer. It’s silent so my HOA neighbors are happy. Very pleased so far.

It was time to replace a 4 year old 2902 where the internals were finally succumbing to the salt air on the Oregon coast. I wanted something a bit more capable of adding more sensors, in particular air quality sensors. I also was attracted to the lack of moving parts so I bought the 4000The good news is that it works as described and was much easier to set up than the 2902 was 4 years ago. The sensors connected automatically and the WiFi and app connections were very straightforward.The bad news is it’s a bit pricey, though that’s probably to be expected for the newest, most advanced integrated unit from Ambient. Unfortunately some of the documentation hadn’t kept up with the new unit (like upgrading firmware instructions). But tech support was quick to respond to walk me through the challenges. Finally, while it’s advertised as being able to support both indoor and outdoor air quality sensors, unfortunately they don’t tell you they use the same channel on the control center so you can actually only use one or the otherOverall, strong positives that gave me 80% of perfect. So it gets 4 stars from me

I have loved the WS-2902 for 6 years now. Some nasty hailstorms wrecked the anemometer but the rest kept churning on perfectly. I decided to upgrade to the ws-4000 and I was impressed by how compact it was (hail really hammered the sensors on my 2902). I had quite the hiccups with the UV sensor apparently install crooked (IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE THAT WAY!! ) can’t understand why that wasn’t in the packaging when something is obviously crooked and not in place. With that said most sensors and the display perform great! The biggest drawback…the rain gauge is awful. It isn’t remotely reliably and this is a major reason I have the station. Current comparisons have been .5-.85 of an inch off. Extremely dissatisfied with that sensor.

I am disappointed. Mounted as instructed in early December and as of May 9, the wind and rain gauges ceased working weeks ago. Very unsatisfying. The temperature and other functions seem to be working fine. The LCD interface is low end. Value?? Hard to say, we shall see how the manufacturer does in providing a functioning unit.

I have had more than my share of weather stations, and this ambient weather is the best yet. Don’t hesitate to get the WS4000.

Great product! Being a meteorologist I understand what it takes to get devices you can count on through thick and thin. This is my 5th Ambient Weather device and having no moving parts is fantastic. It was no fun cleaning out the rain cup 4 times a year. Very simple to setup and install.
