There's obviously several different techniques/different devices that will let you tie off mid-rappel (or ascent) to do - something. This is a large "Rescue 8" designed to do just that; I frequently have to rappel down a steep (non-climbable without ropes) incline into a very deep ravine and cut/trim trees/vegetation. A rescue 8 lets you tie off and move laterally - with your hands free. I weigh around 180lbs; with gear/chainsaw maybe 200 lbs; no issues whatsoever. Taught the kids to rappel with it - simple to rig and simple to instruct how to rig. Lightweight, clips on the harness when I'm using an ascender or off rope. Works well with 8-10mm static rope and 7/16" military (dynamic) rope. I have a smaller one in the rescue backpack. I've dinged it up a few times but just smooth the burrs off with emery cloth - so do remember to check it before you use it - it's soft aluminum and will get burrs - which will wear your ropes prematurely. Good piece of kit.

Works great as a bail out kit for fire gear

I use this in construction to help move things down the building with ease. It's bigger then your standard hook for climbing and worked way better with lifting materials to the rooftop from the ground. It's very sturdy and hasn't broke or chipped and I've been using it 5 days a week for over a month

It has swung over and racked me. I’d like more drag. You have to have a strong tricep to stop if repelling. Works good as a normal two man with the extra carabiner. Or just a loop set up with an extra carabiner.

Product exactly what I needed to help climb trees

I've already gone out and tried this descender a couple different ways. as I'm a large man, I felt comfortable with the ability of this climbing item. I only had one small slippage and that was operator error.

So simple, yet absolutely awesome. A couple of loops around and you are locked in place, free to do roof work without having to hold on with 1 hand and work with the other. Both hands are free to get the job done! Just one loop and you can lower yourself like a pro, nice and easy. This thing is fabulous!
