This book is made up of Halloween images, pictures, and postcards of the past with brief explanations of their meanings and origins. The pictures are iconic depictions of ghosts, witches, bats, and jack-o-lanterns. They are not shockingly terrifying or morbid, as many modern-day Halloween images can be in our present-day world of slasher movies. My four-year-old finds the pictures to be spooky, without being overly scary. This book would make a fine contribution to a learning unit on Halloween and the origins of some of the beliefs and customs, many of which we still practice today.

Fun little book.

A nice, simple, tour of Halloween as it was celebrated by the common man in the past. Nostalgic. A nice trip down memory lane for anyone who prefers Halloween as it was in the past.
