Marvel The Invincible Iron Man, Complete Collection DVD-ROM

This review requires a short introduction before I get to the invincible one. I began reading Marvel comics at the late age of 13. I had already given up the mainstay of my young fantasy world, the DC universe, a year before. When I was heavily into Superman, Batman, The Justice League of America and the rest between the ages of 8 and 12, my friend Larry never gave up trying to convert me into a "Marvel Maniac." However, I was quite adamant in my belief that my hard-earned 12 cents was better spent on what I considered to be a superior product, and gave up the opportunity to buy Spider-Man nos. 7, 8, and 9, which Larry almost bought for me. Then, one day about a year later (after we had moved from Spokane, WA to New Canaan, CT) during a cold, rainy, miserable camping trip in the Adirondack Mountains of New York, I decided that since we were going to be spending most of our time inside the tent, it would be wise to invest in some cheap reading material. I was looking at the comic book rack at the convenience store and was naturally drawn at first to the Superman comics, but then, like a lightning bolt from heaven, I was struck down by the cover of Fantastic Four, issue no. 51. The cover gripped me like nothing I had ever seen before. The colors were so rich and shiny, much more so than my old DC favorites. The artwork inside was more dynamic and interesting than what I had been used to. The title hit home, as I was currently in the grip of a bad case of acne: "This Man, This Monster." There, standing in the rain with his head down, was the orange-skinned Thing that I had laughed at years before. It struck me as being poignant and understated. I had to have it! Then I spotted Tales to Astonish, with a dripping-wet Sub-Mariner on the cover. This was too good to be true -- rainy day comics for a rainy day! I completed my buying frenzy with a copy of Tales of Suspense, featuring the Invincible Iron Man! Both TOS and TTA had great Gene Colon covers and interior art, and were two parts of the same story arc. Not to mention the great Jack Kirby artwork of the FF and Captain America. I was instantly hooked! From that day forward, I was a true Marvel Maniac, and faithfully plunked down my $1.00 every month for 8 of Marvel's superhero comics -- 96 cents plus 4 cents for the governor of Connecticut. I was not an X-Man fan, nor did I buy Sgt. Fury's Howling Commandos. But my favorites continued to be the FF, the Avengers, and the guy in the iron suit. I really got hooked after the introduction of the Titanium Man. By finding old, used copies of comics at the barber shop and antique shops, I was able to fill in a few of the back issues, which familiarized me with the Crimson Dynamo. Cold War stories were very big in those days, and I ate them up.Now, as most of you true Marvel Maniacs probably already know, there were two stars in both TOS and TTA: The Incredible Hulk shared the latter with Giant Man (and later the Sub-mariner), and ol' shellhead shared the former with a guy from the Golden Age of comics, none other than Captain America! So, if you hadn't already figured it out, most of the best early Cappy stories, including his valuable first Silver Age appearance, were in TOS, along with the red and golden Avenger. In effect, you are getting a two-for-one deal when you purchase this DVD. And, unless you absolutely must have Captain America 100 and forward (which you could easily obtain as reprints), you are saving over $500 (the current price of the C.A. collection, which also duplicates the Iron Man stories in TOS) by buying this title. That being said, don't be surprised if everyone else figures this out and the demand for the Iron Man collection skyrockets along with the price! Obviously, the Cappy DVD is the rarest of the digital archives, and the demand is great -- otherwise, it would be as cheap as the over-produced FF, X-men, and Spidey collections. So, unless you can afford to have $600 withdrawn from your account, you would be hard pressed to find a better deal than by buying this DVD. Iron Man and Captain America were two of the most popular Marvel superheros, followed closely by the green monster within the man. I still have my copies of all of the Marvel titles in Fine or better condition, but when the time comes to sell them, I will still have every one of them on easy-to-transport DVDs. I still enjoy reading them to this day. (Note: my FF collection I take to the grave, probably along with Spidey and Doctor Strange, the latter of which will probably never be digitized, unless I do it myself.)Make Mine Marvel!

Worth the price. I know that you bought it for about $30.00. No longer in print, enjoy your profit.

Marvel should never have stopped the ongoing deal with the publisher of this product. Now that they are out of print, they continue to rise in price so get yours while you still can. I understand that Marvel stopped the production of these because they believe they can make more money by just offering the books online. However these disks allowed you to read all the comics whenever you wanted without the internet. Long car trips, airplane etc. this was a great product and they stopped production just before they were getting ready to release all the thor's on one disk. I have them all but ghost rider (was never really a big fan) and am glad to have spent the money on them. If you're a collector who has some real old comics but is too afraid to read them because of how delicate they are or if you simply have a couple missed issues, this product is great for those reasons as well, can't say enough about how awesome this idea was even if it was short lived.
