I devoured this book.
Promised in Fire by Jasmine Walt was a book advertisement that kept popping up in my social media feeds. When I first saw it, I read the summary and thought it sounded fun and added it to my TBR list. After about the fifth time of seeing the advertisement I decided to finally get it and see what it was about. I am so glad I did. I devoured this book. I am a reader that needs a plot line to follow and Promised in Fire definitely satisfied. From the moment the FMC is introduced the readers begin an action-packed and fast-paced adventure. The readers will journey with the FMC while she navigates learning to wield new magical abilities, dealing with a crotchety dragon, rescuing loved ones, and defeating her enemies. While I found the books plot line to be great, my favorite thing was the characters throughout the book. Friend or foe, I enjoyed each character that was introduced throughout the book. If you are fan of fantasy, adventure, dragons, slow burn romance, and magic, I would definitely recommend reading Promised in Fire.Just a warning! I also recommend having the second book (Forged in Frost) close by. Promised in Fire ends on an exciting cliffhanger. You are going to want to immediately grab the second book to continue the adventure.

Moves Fast
*****Spoilers*****Einar is a dragon, the last in the realm because he sacrifices his blood to seal the rest of other dragons away from this world whole he remains in what he expects to be eternal slumber. He hates the fae because of the long war they've been engaged in and because they've killed people dear to him, most recently his good friend who was more like a brother who had mated with a fae princess. Adara is the lost fae-dragon princess hybrid who is unaware of her heritage. She thinks she's a magical dud with little water magic but the amulet she's worn her whole life is really what's kept her from using her water magic but also her fire magic. Adara is planning to join the military instead of taking after her earth fae mother as an herbalist. However, Adara discovers that she has fire magic in an explosive and public way during the trials and her mother uses her earth magic to send Adara many miles away so that Adara escapes the king's general who has been looking for Adara. Adara is the water fire wielding child who can eradicate the shadow magic from the world. Adara and Einar meet because she's led to his place of slumber and awakens him from it with her touch. Einar wakes and recognizes Adara as his mate but is appalled to know his mate is a fae because he has so much animosity toward the fae. The rest of the book is revelations and Adara and Einar teaming together on a quest to find and rescue her mother in exchange for a draught that will put Einar back to sleep. The characters in the book are varied and well developed. The fae and dragon animosity crops up regularly which I think is realistic given that Einar fought the fae and has just awakened from a 20 year rest. Try as Einar does, he can't maintain his emotional distance from Adara and gradually he's coming around by book's end though his body made choices for him a few times where his mind has rebelled but no more than a couple of kisses in this one. There are a lot of twists and turns and unexpected events that occur so the rescue isn't a plan and execute at much it is an idea of the end goal which is interpreted for different reasons. It's a good thing in that the book is unpredictable and not boring but also doing too much too fast. I loved where and how the author took the story, it just felt like drinking from a water hose at times. Too much too fast and not much time spent with Adara and Einar examining whatever they have simmering.Overall, it's a good read.

Enjoyed it but details were muddied.
The plot was there. Certain elements and literary devices were used really well. My problem was the technical execution of things, or forgetting certain details that the author added themselves. There are a few instances I noticed in which a character that was in 1st person, switches to 3rd for about a paragraph and then switches back. And the transitions from calm to combat are really abrupt, and semi-undesirable. Rough to read. And all of the characters give off the “no one ever noticed me but I’m better than them all” kind of vibe.Potential Spoilers ahead but I’ll try to keep them vague:- In one instance we are introduced to a character being described as being just under 5ft tall, while in the lead male’s POV. In a later chapter, the character is again described by the lead male and is noted to be “half my height” which seems absurdly impossible given the setting of the description. This is a nitpicky detail for me and not a complete turn off. But there are other things.- a rather large occurrence happens on the timeline. Something that cannot be forgotten by any of the characters as it’s what sets the story in motion. Our lead female makes a note that this happens “a week ago” and then within the exact same chapter, describes that same event as happening only three days prior. The timeline just wasn’t there. There were of course other things but those were the two biggest instances of inconsistency that I noticed for really obvious things. Over all, the story in general was a great concept and I did enjoy that, I did want to pursue answers. I’m hoping book two is constructed a little better and keeps track of its own timeline.

Gripping story from the first page!
This is such an exciting story! I inhaled it in one day. If you’ve ever read the last storm it’s got a similar storyline but I feel like the writing is more complex. This is a really good book if you’re in between acotar and fourth wing. The fmc is snarky and fun, and I love the playful banter between her and the mmc.Tropes*- fated mates- maybe forced proximity- dragons and fae magic- enemies to lovers-secrets-slow burnNow for the cons. While the author used a variety of words and had pretty good world building it’s almost as if someone rushed the editing process. So many grammatical errors were made, at one point we jumped from 1st to 3rd person in the same paragraph. If it weren’t for those errors I’d have given this a 5 star for a quick and fun read!

It was perfect!
Książka już od pierwszych stron wciągnęła mnie w swoją historię - Fae, magia, smoki, romans, zwroty akcji trzymające w napięciu - idealne połączenie.Polecam!!!

If you liked The Empyrean Series by Rebecca Yarros and The Sky Riders Series by Kerry Law, then you are going to absolutely love this series
This book in particular is about a girl called Adara, a water fae, who can’t control her magic, which makes her useless and dangerous at times. It’s only when she goes into combat training that she unleashes a hidden magic, which has been concealed inside her since she was born, but her “mother” to protect her from the king. Then we have Ediria, a dragon, who was put into a sleep slumber, to protect his kind after they were all destroyed by Fae.When Adara mother is taken to the king and held prisoner for treason, Ardara goes on the hunt to find her and save her, but along the way she sees a beautiful Statue of a dragon, but soon realises that this dragon is real. Especially when her touch wakens Ediria accidently and without knowing has awoken her mate. This story was full of twists and turns it’ll have to hooked from the start. Especially when people’s true colours come into light! So if you don’t mind, I’m just going to go read the second one! Ttyl 🩷🐉

Had all the potential
This book truly has the potential to be something great, but reads like an early draft rather than a finished book. The characters are wonderful but they do not get enough time to develop relationships or go through their feelings for it to read convincingly. The world building is almost nonexistent where it could have been something amazing.
